Cole Nichols Breaks All-Time Boys Basketball Career Scoring Record

Dexter, MO - Dexter High School honored senior Cole Nichols, #14, at halftime of the junior varsity game in the Bearcat Event Center on Thursday, February 16, 2023.

Nichols broke the record previously set by Brett Hale.  During Brett's career at Dexter he led the Bearcats to multiple Bloomfield Christmas Tournament Championship, SCAA Championship and the Bearcats were consistently ranked in the top 10 of Class 3 boys basketball team within the state of Missouri.  Brett recorded 1,812 points, passing Matt Pruitt as the all time leading scorer for the boys basketball team.

Cole has contributed to the varsity Bearcat basketball team all four years of his high school career.  Last Friday night, February 10th in the last few seconds of the first half against the Kennett Indians, he knocked down two free throws to pass Brett at the all time leading boys basketball scorer for the Bearcats.

Cole would like to thank his parents and family for their continued support.  His coaches for always pushing him and his teammates fro always being there and pushing him during practice.

Congratulations Cole Nichols on your tremendous accomplishment.

2023 Class 1, District 2 Boys Basketball Tournament Seeds and Bracket Released

Zalma High School will host the Class 1 District 2 Tournament February 20th - 24th.  Schools included are Bell City High School and Richland High School in Stoddard County.

Richland High School earned the #1 seed followed by #2 Delta, #3 Leopold, #4 Bell City, #5 Scott County Central, #6 Marquand-Zion, and #7 Zalma.

Richland received a bye in the first round and will play the winner of the Bell City/Scott County Central game at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 22nd.

The other semifinal game will be at 7:30 p.m. following the Richland game.

#2 Delta will face #7 Zalma at 5:00 p.m. on February 20th.

#3 Leopold will face #6 Marquand-Zion at 6:30 p.m. also on Monday, February 20th.

#4 Bell City will play #5 Scott County Central at 8:00 p.m. following the Leopold/Marquand game.

Championship game will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 24th.

2023 Class 2, District 1 Boys Basketball Tournament Seeds and Bracket Released

Holcomb High School will host the Class 2 District 1 Tournament February 20th - 24th.  Seeds and bracket were released this week.

Cooter High School earned the #1 seed followed by #2 Bernie, #3 Neelyville, #4 South Pemiscot, #5 Holcomb, and #6 Campbell.

1 Cooter (20-2)

2 Bernie (16-6)

3 Neelyville (12-9)

4 South Pemiscot (9-12)

5 Holcomb (12-11)

6 Campbell (6-16)

7 Hayti (3-18)

Cooter has a bye in the first round and will play the winner of the South Pemiscot/Holcomb game on February 22nd at 6:00 p.m.

#2 Bernie will face #7 Hayti at 4 p.m. on February 20th.

#3 Neelyville will face #6 Campbell at 5:30 p.m. on February 20th

#4 South Pemiscot will play #5 Holcomb at 7:00 p.m. on February 20th

Semifinal match-ups will be at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on February 22nd.

District Championship will be at 6:00 p.m. February 24th.

The Dexter High School recognized Lady Bearcat Basketball Senior Night featuring Caitlin Giles.

Caitlin is the daughter of Tripp and Laura Giles.

She is a member of the girls basketball team and is a four year letterman.

Her future plans are to attend Ole Miss and pursue a career in Physical Therapy.

Her most memorable moment at DHS was during DNOW scavenger hunt competition when Coach Sits bit a competitor.

Caitlin will graduate in May 2023 at Dexter High School.

The Dexter High School recognized Lady Bearcat Basketball Senior Night featuring Maddie Glaus.

Maddie is the daughter of Ron and Kara Glaus.

She is a member of the girls basketball team and is a two year letterman.

Her future plans are to attend the University of Arkansas and major in political science before attend law school.

When it comes to basketball, her most memorable moment at DHS was when Coach Sits tried to convince the Buffalo Wild Wings waiter to give him a deal on his wings.

Maddie will graduate Dexter High School in May 2023.
