In Memory of Gevauna Maddox

Gevauna Maddox, daughter of the late Hobert Voss and Sibyl Coffman Voss, was born on June 8, 1938, in Morrilton, Arkansas, and departed this life on January 31, 2023, at Cypress Point Skilled Nursing in Dexter Missouri, at the age of 84 years.

Mrs. Maddox was a former co-owner of B&M fencing, landscaping, and nursery, for over 30 years. She was a member of the Sugar Tree General Baptist Church and a resident of Dexter.

On July 9, 1955, in Hernando, Mississippi, she was united in marriage to Donald Maddox. Mr. Maddox preceded her in death on March 16, 2020.

She is survived by two sons, Bob Maddox of Dexter, Missouri and Lanny Maddox of Dexter, Missouri; by her daughter, Diana Miller and husband Michael of Dexter, Missouri; by two brothers, Billy Voss of North Carolina, and William Voss of Dexter, Missouri; by eight grandchildren, Steve and Marcy Maddox of Columbia, Missouri, Ken and Kathy Miller of Bryant, Arkansas, Jeff and Jenny Maddox of Columbia, Missouri, Kerre Kelly of Collierville, Tennessee, Kelly and Terry Rutledge of Carriere, Mississippi; Julie Hughes of Dexter, Missouri, Natalie Hughes of Dexter, Missouri, and Christie Jackson of Dexter, Missouri; and by sixteen great-grandchildren.

Other than by her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two grandsons, Chase Morrison and Skyler Maddox; by three brothers, Hobert Voss, Bobby Voss, and Carl Voss, and by two sisters, Mary George and Marlene Owens.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Monday, February 6, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, February 6, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Preston Owens officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.

In Memory Betty J. Riddle

Betty J. Riddle, daughter of the late Herman Taylor and Flossie Rodgers Taylor, was born on July 31, 1933, in Copeland, Arkansas, and departed this life on January 31, 2023, at her residence in Holcomb, Missouri, at the age of 89 years.

Mrs. Riddle was a former employee of Emerson Electric. She was a member of the First Assembly of God in Campbell, Missouri.

On November 5, 1949, in Piggott, Arkansas, she was united in marriage to Orville James Riddle. Mr. Riddle preceded her in death on November 20, 2003.

She is survived by her son, Jeff Riddle of Dexter, Missouri; by her daughter of Brenda McCain of Holcomb, Missouri; by her sister, Olivia Taylor of Holcomb, Missouri, by seven grandchildren, Tara Duffel (Jerrad), Cody Troutt, Cindy Wamble (Ryan), Clayton Riddle, Eric Riddle, Brad Riddle (Ashley) and Nick Sutfin and wife Amanda; by ten great-grandchildren, Leah, Myca, Caleb, Emma, Addi, Alli, Henry, Ethan, Cruz, and Callie; and by her favorite niece, Sandy Taylor.

Other than by her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Jimmy Riddle and Billy Riddle; and by her brother Elmo Taylor.

Visitation will be held at the First Assembly of God in Campbell, Missouri on Saturday, February 4, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will then be conducted at the First Assembly of God on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 1:00 pm. with Dr. James Halkis officiating. Interment will follow in the Lloyd Cemetery in Holcomb, Missouri.

Janis Hansen, daughter of the late Loyd Franklin Hansen and Darlene Goodin Frankum, was born on June 12, 1940, in Louisiana, Missouri, and departed this life on January 31, 2023, at Silex Community Care in Silex, Missouri, at the age of 82 years.

She is survived by her sister, Paula Hansen McIlroy of Bowling Green, Missouri; by three grandchildren, Blaine Crosby and wife Megan, James Crosby, and Tamara Crosby; and by two great-grandchildren, Makinley, and Matthew.

Other than by her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Anthony Luebrecht, and by her daughter, Teresa Crosby.

No services are planned.

In Memory of Phyllis Ann Gates

Phyllis Ann Gates,  of Dexter Missouri, daughter of William Tucker and the late Nora Lee (Bruce) Tucker  was born on October 8, 1957  in Sikeston, Missouri and   passed from this life on February 3, 2023, at  Poplar Bluff, Missouri, at the age of 65.

Phyllis had lived in Southeast Missouri most of her life. She was of the Protestant  Faith. She loved animals  and truly loved horses. At one time even owned a pet monkey.  Most of all she  loved spending time with family and friends, and spoiling grand child.  

She  is survived by father William (Carolyn) Tucker: one son Christopher Gates of Bonne Terre, Missouri; many Nephews as well as a host of family and friends.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her mother; one brother Danny Ray Tucker; one sister Christina Faye Ballard; one grand daughter Hollie Gean Gilmore Gates of Newport, Arkansas; one great grand daughter Addylin Renee Gilmore.

A Graveside service  will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2023,  at 2:00 P.M. at Garden Memorial Cemetery in Sikeston, Missouri, with Pastor Lynn Ash  officiating and Watkins And Sons Funeral of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

In Memory of Charlotte Jean Whalen

Charlotte Jean Whalen, daughter of the late Carter Nelson Davis and Beatrice Myrick Davis, was born on March 6, 1947, and departed this life on January 29, 2023, at Cypress Point Skilled Nursing in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 75 years.

Mrs. Whalen had worked in management for Wal-Mart in Dexter, Missouri. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Bloomfield, Missouri, and a resident of Bloomfield.

On August 7, 1970, in Malden, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Leonard Whalen. Mr. Whalen preceded her in death on January 12, 2010.

She is survived by her son, Chris Whalen of Bloomfield, Missouri; by three sisters, Joyce Julian of Orlando, Florida, Patricia Whaley of Jackson, Missouri, and Janet Heise of Malden, Missouri; and by three grandchildren, Kalie Fodge (Jonathan) of Sikeston, Missouri, Bran Whalen, and Dakoda Whalen both of Bloomfield, Missouri.

Other than by her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Carter Lee Davis Jr., and Harry Davis; and by Jessica Whalen.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Friday, February 3, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dwight Hensley officiating. Interment will follow in the Bloomfield Cemetery
