Wanda Louise Jones Vancil, daughter of the late Jack Jones and Helen Livers Jones, was born on October 8, 1936, near Puxico, Missouri, and departed this life on January 16, 2023, at Southeast Health of Stoddard County in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 86 years.
Mrs. Vancil had worked for Lucas Florist in Dexter, Missouri, for over 40 years, and later she was the co-owner and operator of Gideon Care Center in Gideon, Missouri and Winchester Nursing Center and Winchester Place in Bernie, Missouri. She was a faithful member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dexter, where she enjoyed volunteering and serving her community. She was also a member of the Dexter Elks Lodge #2439, and Hidden Trails Country Club, and she enjoyed playing cards.
Wanda was a selfless, loving person. She could never do enough for each person she met and there wasn’t a person she wouldn’t put before herself. In her loved one’s eyes, she was one of God’s Angels on earth. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
On June 6, 1954, she was united in marriage to Samuel Doran Vancil. Mr. Vancil survives of their home in Dexter.
In addition to her husband, Doran, she is survived by her daughter, Angela Jones and husband Don of Dexter, Missouri; by two daughters-in-law, Kathy Vancil and April Vancil, both of Dexter, Missouri; by her brother, James Dale Jones of Sugarland, Texas; by five grandchildren, Matthew Vancil and wife Faith, Ashley Vancil, Bailey Sells, Ben Sells and wife Leigh, and Jeffrey Hull; and by five great-grandchildren, Clayton McGowan, Aidan McGowan, Liam McGowan, Aubrey Sells, and Nora Sells.
Other than by her parents, she was preceded in death by three sons, Bruce Vancil, Wade Vancil, and John Vancil; by her brother, Scott Jones and by her sister, Mona Scherer.
Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Thursday, January 19, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will then be conducted at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dexter on Friday, January 20, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. David Coon officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
