In Memory of Louanna Jean Houchins

Louanna Jean Houchins of Bloomfield, Missouri, daughter of the late James Edward and Dorothy (Plummer) Spradling, was born in Sikeston, Missouri on September 17, 1956, and passed away in Dexter, Missouri at Southeast Hospital on September 22, 2022, at the age of 66.

Louanna lived in the Bloomfield area most of her life. On February 28, 1975, Louanna was united in marriage with Gary Houchins. Louanna was of the Baptist Faith. She loved spending time with family and always put the needs of others above her own. Louanna was a devout Christian and a great friend to everyone that knew her. She enjoyed spending time on her farm watching wildlife and taking care of her animals that she adored.

She leaves behind her husband of 47 years, two sons, Monte (Jaime) Houchins of Bloomfield, Gary (Jessi) Houchins of Puxico; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Tony Spradling of Bloomfield; three sisters, Sharon Robinett, Darlene Smith and Juanita Hays all of Bloomfield. A host of family and friends also survive.

Louanna was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Don Spradling.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 from 12:00 noon to 2:00 P.M. at the Watkins and Sons Chapel in Dexter, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held the same day as visitation at 2:00 P.M at the Watkins and Sons Chapel in Dexter with Pastor John McCain of Bloomfield, Missouri officiating.

Interment will follow in Bloomfield Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri with Watkins and Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Missouri in charge of arrangements.

In Memory of Billy Latham Zook

Billy Latham Zook of Bloomfield, Missouri, son of the late Willie A. and Parisea L. Latham Zook, was born in East Prairie, Missouri on November 23, 1929, and passed away in Sikeston, Missouri at the Sikeston Convalescent Center on September 21, 2022, at the age of 92.

Billy grew up in East Prairie and worked many years in construction.

On November 12, 1949, Billy married Shirley E. Holman.

They lived on a farm in Glen Allen, Missouri for many years until Shirley's passing in September of 2004, after which Billy moved to Bloomfield. He was of the Baptist Faith, loved his family, and loved playing music on guitar.

He leaves behind one son, Randy (Regina) Zook of Bloomfield; two daughters, Ruth Zook and Sherry Harris both of Bloomfield; one brother, Chalvas Zook of Wappapello, Missouri; four sisters, Delphia Houghland of Columbia, Illinois, Dathol Barksdale and Linda Ivy both of Sikeston, Missouri, and Brenda Watson of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; ten grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Many other family and friends will miss his smile and humor.

He was preceded in death by one daughter Vicki Zook; one son who died at birth; three brothers, Elvon Zook, Gary Zook, and Dewey Zook; two sisters, Laverta Bonta and Carolyn Shemwell.

Visitation will be on Sunday, September 25, 2022 from 12:00 noon to 2:00 P.M. at the Watkins and Sons Chapel in Bloomfield, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held the same day as visitation at 2:00 P.M at the Watkins and Sons Chapel in Bloomfield with Zach Zook of Glen Allen, Missouri officiating.

Interment will follow in Bloomfield Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri with Watkins and Sons Funeral Service of Bloomfield, Missouri in charge of arrangements.

In Memory of James Alan Jarrell

James Alan Jarrell of Bloomfield, Missouri the son of the late LD and Nellie W. (Layton) Jarrell was born in Bloomfield, Missouri, on January 15, 1956, and passed away on September 21, 2022, at the age of 66 years.

James lived in the Bloomfield area all of his life and was of the Baptist Faith. He loved fishing and hunting, loved being outdoors and trading vehicles. James also loved spending time with his grandkids.

He was united in marriage to Susan Diane (Nelson) in 1988 in Bloomfield, Missouri. James is survived by his wife; two sons, Robert Don Christian of Dexter, Missouri, Don (Freda Mae) Christian of Jackson, Missouri; three daughters, Christal (Matt) Thomas of O'Fallon, Missouri, Christi (Martin) Bass of Dexter, Missouri, and Lori (Billy) Anderson of Dexter, Missouri; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Larry (Tina) Jarrell of Puxico, Missouri, Clifton (Kathy) Jarrell of Sikeston, Missouri; three sisters, Ellen Clifton of Bernie, Missouri, Linda Jarrell of Sikeston, Missouri, and Debbie (Roy) Pullum of Dexter, Missouri. A host of family and friends also survive.

James was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 26, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.

Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 26, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Watkins and Sons Funeral Chapel in Dexter, Missouri with Pastor John McCain of Bloomfield, Missouri officiating. Interment will follow at Hagy Cemetery in Dexter, Missouri, with Watkins and Sons Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.

In Memory of Irene “Sidder” Smith Jordan

Irene “Sidder” Smith Jordan, daughter of the late Arthur Lee Smith and Elma Rogers Smith, was born on April 8, 1932, in Essex, Missouri, and departed this life on September 21, 2022, at Winchester Nursing Center, in Bernie, Missouri, at the age of 90 years.

Mrs. Jordan was a former employee of the State of Missouri, working at the Regional Center in Sikeston. She was a member of Risen Church in Dexter, a former resident of Gray Ridge and Dexter, and for several years, she enjoyed living at Central Gardens in Dexter. She enjoyed writing poetry for her family and friends.

On September 26, 1948, near Essex, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Rev. Henry Jordan. Rev. Jordan preceded her in death on November 22, 1999. For 50 years, Rev. and Mrs. Jordan pastored various General Baptist Churches including Parma, White Oak, Gray Ridge, New Bethel, Morehouse, Boyd, and Liberty Hill.

She is survived by her son, Roger Jordan and wife Janet of Dexter, Missouri; by her daughter, Janet Benson and husband Steve of Lawrenceville, Illinois; by eight grandchildren, Ben Worley and wife Belinda, Curt Benson and wife Jessica, Brooke Lockhart and husband Luke, Terry Anderson and wife Nannette, Deborah Gill and husband Paul, Jamie Curtis and husband Kenny, Jason Alsup and wife Jill, and Megan Hueckel and husband Jeffrey; and by twenty great-grandchildren.

Other than by her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Ricky Michael Jordan; by four brothers, Robert Smith, Carl Smith, Louis Smith, and Arthur Lee Smith; and by her sister, Ilene Worth.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Sunday, September 25, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, September 25, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Old Essex Cemetery.

In Memory of Ollie Clinton Ozbun, Jr

Ollie Clinton Ozbun, Jr. went home to Jesus on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at age 85 at the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, Arkansas.  He was surrounded by family as he peacefully passed away after a short hospital stay. We are heartbroken to lose him but know he is in Heaven.

“Junior” was born to Ollie Clinton, Sr. and Dora Mae (Woods) Ozbun on April 27, 1937 in Bono, Arkansas.

Junior met his wife, Virginia Shrum, in 1950 at Allen Island school in Senath, Missouri. They married September 5, 1958 (recently celebrating their 64th wedding anniversary) and went on to have four children:  Sandra Ozbun; Clint (Lisa) Ozbun of Doniphan, Missouri; Dana (John) Stillwagon of Bolivar; and Leanne (Garry) Brady of Dexter. In 1969, the family moved from Senath to Doniphan.

In addition to being a dedicated and loving father, Junior also loved time with family and watching his children and grandchildren play sports.  He enjoyed fishing, especially the years on Lake Okeechobee, gardening, as well as singing and playing the guitar.  He could ‘fix’ or build nearly anything you could think of and would ‘calculate’ in his head quicker than most with a calculator.  Throughout Junior’s adult life, he held an unwavering faith in God, which he shared with those who surrounded him. 

Junior worked at several jobs throughout his life which included:  cutting timber and floating cypress logs in chest high water in Senath, working for a refrigeration company in St. Louis, harvesting wheat for a few years from Texas to Montana, and for over 45 years until he retired, he owned/operated Ozbun’s Garage & Auto Parts in Doniphan.

Junior joins his daughter Sandra in Heaven.  He was also preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Dan (Wanda) Ozbun; Barbara (James) Moore; Donald (Shirley) Ozbun; Cleo (Teddi) Ozbun.

He is survived by his brothers: Eugene (Margaret) Ozbun and Richard (Beverly) Ozbun, both of Senath.  Junior is also survived by his grandchildren: Rachel (Josh) Tesreau of Owensboro, Kentucky; Amy (Zack) Spink of Pocahontas, Arkansas; Bradley (Angela) Stillwagon of Kansas City; Conner (Madalyn) Stillwagon of Springfield; Jennifer Stillwagon of Bolivar; Destiny (Jake) Durham of Haughton, Louisiana; and Kerigan Brady of Chattanooga, Tennessee.

He is survived by his great-grandchildren: Jackson Durham of Haughton, Louisiana; Delaney Spink of Pocahontas, Arkansas; Isaac Stillwagon of Springfield; Delaney Durham (due in October 2022); Baby Stillwagon (due in March 2023).  He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be held, Saturday, September 24, at First Baptist Church, Doniphan, Missouri by Edwards Funeral Home.  Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life service at 1:00 p.m officiated by Monty Flanigan.  Burial will follow at Doniphan Cemetery.
