In Memory of Irene “Sidder” Smith Jordan

Irene “Sidder” Smith Jordan, daughter of the late Arthur Lee Smith and Elma Rogers Smith, was born on April 8, 1932, in Essex, Missouri, and departed this life on September 21, 2022, at Winchester Nursing Center, in Bernie, Missouri, at the age of 90 years.

Mrs. Jordan was a former employee of the State of Missouri, working at the Regional Center in Sikeston. She was a member of Risen Church in Dexter, a former resident of Gray Ridge and Dexter, and for several years, she enjoyed living at Central Gardens in Dexter. She enjoyed writing poetry for her family and friends.

On September 26, 1948, near Essex, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Rev. Henry Jordan. Rev. Jordan preceded her in death on November 22, 1999. For 50 years, Rev. and Mrs. Jordan pastored various General Baptist Churches including Parma, White Oak, Gray Ridge, New Bethel, Morehouse, Boyd, and Liberty Hill.

She is survived by her son, Roger Jordan and wife Janet of Dexter, Missouri; by her daughter, Janet Benson and husband Steve of Lawrenceville, Illinois; by eight grandchildren, Ben Worley and wife Belinda, Curt Benson and wife Jessica, Brooke Lockhart and husband Luke, Terry Anderson and wife Nannette, Deborah Gill and husband Paul, Jamie Curtis and husband Kenny, Jason Alsup and wife Jill, and Megan Hueckel and husband Jeffrey; and by twenty great-grandchildren.

Other than by her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Ricky Michael Jordan; by four brothers, Robert Smith, Carl Smith, Louis Smith, and Arthur Lee Smith; and by her sister, Ilene Worth.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Sunday, September 25, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, September 25, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Old Essex Cemetery.
