DHS Lady Cats Tennis Match Ends Due to Lightning Strike

The Dexter Lady Bearcats tennis team opened their season at home on Monday, August 29th against Poplar Bluff.  The match was called due to lightning and ended in a tie 4-4.

"Overall, I was pleased with our first match,"  commented head tennis coach Kristi Boles. "We had a lot of nerves that I saw pop up and hopefully, those will subside as the season progresses. We had some close matches that we ended up pulling out and I was very proud of those ladies, but we need to learn to finish a match when we have the early lead."

"We have three more matches this week, so we will work on getting all the kinks out and getting better every match," continued Boles.

#1 Bella Cook / Grace Marvel (D) defeated Kaitlyn Booker / Ava Richardson (PB) 8-6

#2 Kate Churchill / Emma Dorton (D) defeated Lauren Hamilton / Maura Dill (PB) 9-8 (7-5 tiebreak)

Sikeston, MO - The Lady Bearcats volleyball team went 9-0 at the Sikeston Volleyball jamboree on Wednesday, August 24, 2022

They defeated Campbell 15-11, 15-5, 15-10, Poplar Bluff 15-14, 15-10, 15-9, Sikeston 15-7, 15-7, 15-5.

"This is our first year to play in a Jamboree and I appreciate Sikeston for letting us us join their Jamboree this year," commented head volleyball coach Starla Pulley.  "The girls have been working hard and it was good to see them in a game like situation.  They have been putting in a tremendous amount of effort."

The Jamboree also allowed the volleyball team to see some of the things they can do better.

"We talked about not settling, always expecting more from from yourself and your teammates," continued Pulley.  "I felt the girls had a lot of good energy and communication during the Jamboree."

"We have a great group of girls, whether they are on the court or on the bench, they are in it and cheering on their teammates.  That is a very important part to having a successful team."

The Lady Cats JV volleyball team will participate at the Malden JV Volleyball tournament on Saturday at 9:30 a.m., 10:15 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. before entering into bracket play.

They will have their home opener at the Bearcat Event Center on Tuesday, August 30th against Arcadia Valley.  Game time is 5:30 p.m. for JV with Varsity to follow.
