In Memory of Robert “Bob” Newell

Robert “Bob” Newell, son of the late Frank Newell and Francis Gibbs Newell was born on December 29, 1931, in Oxnard, California and departed this life on April 6, 2022, at the age of 90.

Mr. Newell was a Veteran of the United States Army having served with the Europe Occupational Forces during the Korean War. He was a welder and fabricator in Ventura, California. Bob was a member of the Dexter Masonic Lodge and the Dexter Elks Lodge #2439. He enjoyed smoking meat at the Elks Lodge. Due to his contributions to little league a field was named after him in Arroya Verde Park in Ventura, California.

On May 27, 1983, he was united in marriage to Anne Smith in Oxnard, California. Mrs. Newell survives of their home in Dexter, Missouri.

Other than by his wife, he is survived by three sons, Roger Newell and wife Susan of Fresno, California, Michael Newell and wife Debbie of Apex, North Carolina, and Paul Smith and wife Brenda of Perry, Utah; by two daughters, Cristi Newell of Ventura, California and Kim Crockett and husband Davy of Dexter, Missouri; by nine grandchildren, Brianne, April Lynn, Kayla Rose, Derek, Ethan, Roselene, Elizabeth, Ariel, and Tristan; by five great-grandchildren, Scarlett, Malachi, Chance Patrick, Harper, and Justin; and by special friends, James and Diane Sawyer of Newberry, Massachusetts, and other relatives.

Other than by his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Arlene Gibbs.

Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is assisting with arrangements.
