Non-election Declared in Puxico Board of Aldermen Race

Puxico, MO - A non-election has been declared in Puxico following the withdrawal of a candidate from the board of aldermen race.

Under Puxico City ordinance 105.015 which was approved by Puxico voters in the April 2021 municipal election, the city can forgo an election when there is only one candidate up for the available seat.

Incumbents Patti McLean and Peter Coutavas are running unopposed in Ward 1 and Ward II respectively.

These two candidates will assume the responsibilities of the office .

Stoddard County Commission Meeting - January 31, 2022

Stoddard County, MO - The Stoddard County Commissioners met in a regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, January 31, 2022.   Meeting minutes were not available yet due to the inclement weather last week. (The ShowMe Times will be posted when available.)

The Stoddard County Ambulance District were awarded American Rescue Plan Act funds (ARPA) on january 18th.  SCAD was paid $27,077.90 for a SimMan ALS high fidelity training mannequin.  The cost included a $3,505 extended warranty plan.

The commissioners have spent $157,300.90 of the $2,696,373.99 of the APRA funds awarded to the county in 2021.   The county will receive more funds in 2022.   

Eligible uses of these funds include:

+ Revenue replacement for the provision of government services to the extent of the reduction in revenue due to the COVID-19 public health emergency, relative to revenues collected in the most recent fiscal year prior to the emergency,

+ COVID-19 expenditures or negative economic impacts of COVID-19, including assistance to small businesses, households, and hard-hit industries, and economic recovery,

+ Premium pay for essential workers,

+ Investments in water, sewer, and broadband infrastructure.

The Stoddard County Commission also hired a new attorney, replacing Al Schrader, with a vote of 3 - 0 to hire Travis Elliott as the county's attorney for 2022.

Elliott works for Ellis, Ellis, Hammons and Johnson PC, a law firm based in Springfield.

Greg Mathis announced during the meeting that he will be running for Presiding Commissioner.  Incumbent Danny Talkington has chosen not to seek re-election.

Mathis previously held the position from 2003 - 2018.

The first day of candidate filing for the August 2nd primary election is February 22nd. Filling will continue through March 29th.

Commissioner Carol Jarrell's and Steve Jordan’s terms run through 2024.
