
Dexter, MO - The Dexter School Board held their monthly meeting on January 18, 2022. Superintendent Amy James presented two calendar options to the board, which were voted on by the district staff prior to the meeting.
Both calendar options A and B include 170 days and 36 weather hours and will lengthen the school day slightly.
Calendar A would run from Aug. 24, 2022 to May 24, 2023 with graduation on May 19, 2023.
Calendar B would start on Aug. 23, 2022 and run through May 23, 2023 with graduation on May 19, 2023.
Calendar A offered six teacher (PD) professional development days compared to five on calendar B.
Calendar B includes an Easter break of April 6, 7 and 10, 2023 while option A is April 7 and 10.
Both feature a three-day spring break with option A including a fourth day, which is a teacher PD day.
Amy James said the district staff voted on both options selecting option B in a close vote of 57.9% to 42.1% for option A.
James, per the staff vote, recommended calendar B to the board.
The board then approved the calendar the 2022-23 school year.
With the new calendar the school day for the 2022-23 school year will start five minutes earlier and end six minutes later.

Call to Order/Roll Call/Pledge:
The Board President announced the meeting is to begin, ascertains the attendance status of all board members, with Mr. Herman Morse being absent.
The Board President leads in the saying of the Pledge of Allegiance.
Consent Agenda: The consent agenda was approved.
Public Comments: We had one registered guest, who withdrew their request prior to the meeting. There was one letter sent to the board from concerned Bearcats.
Old Business: There was no old business.
New Business:
A. The board approved budget amendments for the month of January.
B. The board approved the 2022 summer school dates as June 1-28, 2022.
C. The board approved the 2022-2023 school calendar. Calendar B was recommended with 57.9% of the staff vote. Superintendent Amy James presented two calendar options to the board, which were voted on by the district staff prior to the meeting.

Lauren Howard - Southwest Title Position
The board approved hiring Nancy Langley as the Summer School Director for the 2022 session.
The board approved the following resignations/retirements for the 2021-2022 school year:
Kris Rudd - Retirement at the conclusion of the 21-22 school year.
James Sneed - Resigning as the MS Head Baseball Coach effective immediately.
The board completed the superintendent evaluation and voted to extend the contract for an additional two years. The contract is for a period of 36 months commencing on July 1, 2022.

Magi McBride was named second alternate.
Natalie Sells named first alternate.
Jayci Holcomb named 2022 Winter Homecoming Queen.

Bronwen Young is the 2021 Winter Homecoming Queen and crowned the 2022 Homecoming Court.
She is the daughter of Josh and Jessica Young.
Bronwen graduated in May of 2021 and is 19 years old.
She is currently majoring in health sciences at Three Rivers College. Her future plans are to transfer to Arkansas State University in the fall.
Her escort is Adam Saylors.
Adam is the son of Corey Saylors and Nicki Buttery.

Tori White is the daughter of Jason and Courtney Cowell and is a senior at Dexter High School.
She is a member of varsity volleyball, varsity basketball cheer, Student Council, FCCLA, Future Business Leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Pep Club, Sr. Beta Club, and National Honor Society.
Her future plans are to attend University of Missouri - Columbia and study law.
She was nominated by the cheerleading team.
Her escort is Maddox Miller.
Maddox is the son of Gavin and Kristin Miller.
