In Memory of Marty Thompson

In Memory of Marty Thompson

Marty Thompson, daughter of the late Bud Stanley and Betty Wheeler Stanley, was born on March 21, 1944, in Corning, Arkansas, and departed this life on December 13, 2021, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, at the age of 77 years.

Mrs. Thompson was a former educator for 33 years and taught 4th Grade at Dexter Public Schools in Dexter, Missouri. She was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Dexter and a resident of Dexter.

Marty was a member of the Dexter CTA, Dexter MSTA, Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and she was on the Dexter Housing Authority Board of Directors.

On July 8, 1967, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Larry Thompson. Mr. Thompson survives of their home in Dexter.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Jon Thompson and wife Deidre of Dexter; by her daughter, Stephanie Thompson-Long and her fiancé Scott Maintz of Jackson; and by three grandchildren, Mattie Thompson, Preston Thompson, and Ann Marie Long.

Other than by her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Linda Stanley.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Saturday, December 18, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Mike Williams officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.

Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is assisting with arrangements.

In Memory of Verna Jean Boyd

Verna Jean Boyd, 92, of Jackson, passed away Friday, December 10, 2021, at the Lutheran Home.

Verna was born August 15, 1929, to Earl and Sidonia Bangert Seabaugh in Sedgewickville, MO.  She and Thomas Boyd were married August 17, 1947, in Sedgewickville.  He preceded her in death on September 22, 2001.

She was a member of the Sedgewickville Lutheran Church.

Verna is survived by four children, Jerry (Pam) Boyd of Patton, Janet (Chuck) Heady of Cape Girardeau, Jim (Robin) Boyd of Sedgewickville, and John (Cathy) Boyd of Jackson; seven grandchildren, Kimberly Monteith of Jackson, Dee Loflin of Dexter, Carson (Amy) Heady of St. Louis, Brandon (Erica) Boyd of Sedgewickville, Holly (Jason) Floyd of Millersville, Kristen (Luke) Hembree of Starkville, MS and Loren Boyd of St. Louis; nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Verna was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Boyd; a grandson, Jim Monteith; a brother, Kenny Seabaugh; a daughter-in-law, Sheila Boyd; and special friend, J.D. Propst.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 14, 2021, from 4-7 PM at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. 

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at 10 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Jerry Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in the Sedgewickville Cemetery in Sedgewickville, MO. 

Memorial may take the form of contributions to the Sedgewickville Cemetery Fund.

In Memory of Barbara Rhoades

Barbara Rhoades, daughter of the late Albert Gardner and Jennie Adcock, was born in April of 1926, in Matthews, Missouri, and departed this life in December of 2021, in Bridgeton, Missouri, at the age of 95 years.

Mrs. Rhoades was a former telephone operator for Michigan Bell. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Dexter, Missouri, and a former resident of Dexter.

In April of 1946, in Piggott, Arkansas, she was united in marriage to Huey Rhoades. Mr. Rhoades preceded her in death in March of 1995.

She is survived by two daughters, Sheryl Rhoades-Durrer and husband Dan Durrer of Washington, Missouri, and Karen Schwent and husband Edward Schwent III of Bridgeton, Missouri; by her sister, Jane Cantrell of Mississippi; by two grandsons, Kyle Durrer and Travis Durrer; and by two great-grandsons, Thomas Durrer and Charlie Durrer.

Other than by her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Gardner; by four sisters, Fannie Margaret Green, Mary Lee Chartrau, Alberta Ingram, and Peggy Tanner; and by her grandson, Edward Schwent IV.

A graveside service will be held at Dexter Cemetery on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at 11:00 a.m.

In Memory of Edna Mae Easley

Edna Mae Easley, daughter of the late Alvin James Willis and Gladys May Lowey Willis was born on May 15, 1926 in Doniphan, Missouri and departed this life on December 10, 2021 at Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter, Missouri at the age of 95 years.

Mrs. Easley was a former Homemaker and was a resident of Bernie.

On February 6, 1952, in East Prairie, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Charles Easley. Mr. Easley preceded her in death in 1962.

She is survived by one son; Charles David Easley of East Prairie; by one daughter, Velma Jean Lambert Cobb of Bernie; by two sisters, Emma Sue McGill of Anniston, Missouri and Lorene Newberry of Jacksonville, Florida; by ten grandchildren and sixteen great – grandchildren.

Other than by her husband and parents she was preceded in death by two brothers; James Willis and Rayburn Willis, by five sisters; Kristin Willis Mickey, Irene Howton, Daisy Williams, Mary Willis, and Sarah Poe, and by two grandchildren; David Allen Williams and Sherry Ann Cobb.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

Funeral services will then be conducted at the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Daniel Easley officiating.

Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.

In Memory of Robert Paul Womack

Robert Paul Womack, son of the late R.D. Womack and Beatrice Williams Womack, was born on November 18, 1926 in Dardanelle, Arkansas and departed this life on December 10, 2021 at his residence in Dexter, Missouri at the age of 95 years.

Mr. Womack was a was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was a former forklift driver for Federal Mogul, and a resident of Dexter.

On March 3, 1973 in Bernie, Missouri he was United in marriage to Billie Cook. Mrs. Womack survives of their home in Dexter.

In addition to his wife Billie, he is survived by one daughter, Debra Stoker and husband Danny of Dexter; by one brother Louis Womack of Dexter; by three grandchildren; Stacie Grummert and husband Luke of Dexter, April Ash and husband Lance of Sikeston, and Dustin Ogelvie and wife Trisha of Bernie; and by eight great – grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dewey Womack; and by four sisters, Velda Womack, Mary Hawks, Geraldine Broyles, and Ruth Williams.

Graveside services will be conducted at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, on Monday December 13, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Joe Payne officiating.

Mathis Funeral Home of Dexter is assisting the family with arrangements.
