In Memory of Margaret Jones

Margaret Jones, 74, sweetly entered the presence of Jesus surrounded by family at her home in Dexter, Missouri on March 2, 2021.

Margaret was born on March 16, 1946 in Wappapello, Missouri to Albert and Maggie Conner both of whom preceded her in death.

She was united in marriage on November 10, 1963 to the late Dale Louis Jones, Sr. in Puxico, Missouri. They later settled in Dexter, Missouri where they raised two sons, Dale, Jr. and Brian. They enjoyed 53 years together before Mr. Jones' death in 2016.

Margaret worked as a cook at Dexter Southwest Elementary School from which she retired after 23 years of service. Prior to that she worked for 17 years at Elder Manufacturing.

She was a faithful member of Dexter First Assembly of God Church for 28 years where she gained a reputation as a dedicated prayer warrior. Margaret's greatest passion was serving her Lord which led to her active participation in several ministries within the church including assisting in the kitchen for dinners and events, as well as serving on the pulpit committee. She had a great compassion for people, spending countless hours praying with and for those in need. One of her special gifts was sending cards to those who needed encouragement. Her crowning joy was knowing that her sons followed in her footsteps by serving the Lord.

Margaret loved to read and enjoyed browsing antique shops. She was an excellent cook known for many special dishes including her famous sausage biscuits and gravy, which she served annually at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes breakfast, and her much sought-after recipe for holiday dressing. She was also known for her delicious desserts.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by eight brothers: Francis Conner (infant), Harvey Conner, Ralph Conner, Francis Conner, A.J. Conner, Carl Conner, Howard Conner, and Claudie Conner; four sisters: Ruth Conner (infant), Geraldine Conner, Edna Pitt and Lorene Grimes.

She leaves to treasure her memories her two loving sons, Dale Jones, Jr. of Kansas City, Missouri, and Brian (Sarah) Jones of Dexter, Missouri; two grandchildren, Logan Jones and Lily Jones of Dexter, Missouri; a brother, Buddy (Louise) Conner of Wappapello, Missouri; a sister, Betty Payne of Puxico, Missouri, a host of nieces and nephews, other family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri on Friday, March 5, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at Dexter First Assembly of God Church on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Kaleb Brown, Rev. Mike Kholbaker, and Rev. Gary Petty officiating.

A private family-only interment will be held Monday, March 8, 2021 in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Memorials may be made in her honor to the Dexter First Assembly of God, 911 Brown Pilot Lane, Dexter, Missouri 63841.

In Memory of Edwin Glen “Johnny” Grimes

Edwin Glen “Johnny” Grimes, son of Carl Earnest Grimes and Mildred Bell, was born on March 7, 1938 in Bernie, Missouri, and departed this life on March 1, 2021 at his home in Three Way, Tennessee, at the age of 82, just shy of his 83rd birthday.

Mr. Grimes was a former supervisor of the Ceco Door Company in Chicago, Illinois and Milan, Tennessee. He worked for Ceco Door for 44 years and retired in 2008 in Three Way, Tennessee. Mr. Grimes was baptized in his youth in Gideon, Missouri and was of the Baptist faith.

He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Shirley Ann Smith-Parrish on October 15, 1988. She survives of the home.

Mr. Grimes is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Brannan Long (Brent) of Jonesboro, Arkansas; and by three sons, Jeffrey Grimes and Joey Grimes of Milan, Tennessee, and Edwin G. “Eddy” Grimes (Cristela) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his step-children, Ginger Beaird (Rick) of Bernie, Missouri, Tony Parrish (Cheryl) of Eureka, Missouri, and Angela Cross (Kevin) of Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

He is survived by eight grandchildren: Drake Long, Brielle Rowlan (Alex), Jordon Long, Ashtyn Carr, Alex Beaird (Lindsay), Justin Beaird (Emily), Alexia Cross, and Zachary Parrish.

He is survived by seven great-grandchildren: Ethan Baxter, Tatum Baxter, Jameson Beaird, McKenzie Beaird, Mason Beaird, Maddox Beaird, and Brenson Rowlan.

Mr. Grimes is also survived by one sister, Catherine Timms of Porter, Texas and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, by one brother Bill Grimes, one sister, Mary McLeskey and one son Johnny M. Grimes.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Thursday, March 4, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Stan Dauck officiating.

Interment will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri at 12:00 p.m. with full military honors.

Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is in charge of arrangements.

In Memory of Pauline Matthews

Pauline Matthews passed away on February 26, 2021 at her home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She was born in Bloomfield, Missouri on April 25, 1926, the daughter of John and Opal Harper and was married to Jack Matthews.

Pauline was educated in Bloomfield public schools and Southeast Missouri State University. Prior to moving to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, she lived in Jefferson City, Missouri.

In her youth, her first employment was during World War II as a riveter at Curtiss Wright, an airplane manufacturer in Saint Louis. She became a schoolteacher in the public school system for several years. She worked for her husband Jack in the Stoddard County Treasurer’s Office and owned and operated Pauline’s Ready to Wear dress shop. After moving to Jefferson City, she was employed by the Missouri State Treasurer’s office, Missouri House of Representatives as well as the Missouri State Senate.

She was a member of the Bloomfield Chapter Order of the Eastern Star proudly serving as the Worthy Matron.

Pauline was well known as an active golfer and enjoyed playing in golf tournaments along with her husband Jack. She especially enjoyed sharing the story of her hole in one. She genuinely loved playing bridge, bird watching and tending to her flowers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Matthews of 73 years; her parents; her brother, Elbert Harper; and her daughter-in law, Nancy Matthews.

She is survived by her son, Col. (Ret.) Larry W. Matthews, a 30-year Army veteran; her daughter-in-law, Kim Matthews; her sisters, Louis Middelkamp, and Mildred Bell; numerous nieces and nephews; and her faithful companion Zeus.

Her burial service will be conducted at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri on March 18, 2021 at 1:00 p.m., where she will be laid to rest with her husband.

Memorials may be made to an organization near and dear to Pauline, The Stars and Stripes Museum, 17377 Stars and Stripes Way, Bloomfield, MO 63825.

In Memory of David William Shaw, Jr.

David William Shaw, Jr. son of the late David William, Sr and Patricia Ann Weldon Shaw was born in Parma, Missouri on December 28, 1924 and passed away February 27, 2021 at his home in Malden at the age of 96.

After graduating from high school in Parma, David served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. After being Honorably discharged from the Army David moved to Flint, Michigan where he worked for General Motors as a machinist. David lived in Flint with his family until his retirement. David served for many years at the American Legion  Post #239 and the VFW of Lilbourn Post #7138. David served as the Bingo Chairman for 15 years at the American Legion. David was a member of the United Auto Workers Union. He was of the Methodist Faith.

David is survived by his son David Louis Shaw of Grandblank, Michigan: step-son Kirk Andrew Walker of Malden. One daughter Sue Ann Shaw-Rule of Flint, Michigan. Two brothers: Floyd Shaw of Parma, and Michael Shaw of Malden.  Ten Grandchildren, Twelve  Great-grandchildren. David was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his first great-great-grandchild due in June of 2021.  A host of family and  friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one son; Dale Richard Shaw, one step-son; Randall Earl Walker; one daughter; Rita Shaw, two brothers; Burl Shaw and Bob Shaw; one sister; Hazel Townsend.

David was very fortunate to have a very special Daughter-in-law and caregiver Penny Walker of Bernie.

David will be buried at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri with full Military Honors. Burial will be a private family service. Rev. Martin Goode and Rev. Aulden LeBlanc will officiate the service. 

A memorial service will be held at the American Legion Post 293 in the near future and will be announced.

Family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be made to the American Legion Post #239 in Malden. These may be mailed to PO Box 203, Malden, Missouri 63863

In Memory of Kimberly Gaines Wichern

On Wednesday January 17th, 2021 Kimberly Gaines Wichern, our loving mother, passed away at the age of 53.

Kim was born June 8th, 1967 to Barbara Sue (Stanley) Gaines and Melvin Earl Gaines.

She spent her adventurous life working as a Jack of all Trades, including work as a substitute teacher, seamstress, dental hygienist, event planner, and executive assistant in the states of Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and Tennessee.

She also raised twin daughters, Jessica and Rebecca. Kim had a love of travel and event planning was her true passion. She was known for her contagious smile as well as her compassion and friendliness to others.

Kim was preceded in death by her father Melvin, her mother Barbara, and her sister Melissa (Gaines) Haines. She is survived by her daughters Jessica (Wichern) Birge and Rebecca (Wichern) McManaway, as well as two grandchildren Kipton and Kinsley.

A family memorial will be held at a future date..
