Dr. Lewis “Rick” Hux, son of Connie Rocha Hux of Essex, Missouri, and the late Lewis “Toppy” Hux, was born on December 9, 1947, in Sikeston, Missouri, and departed this life on January 26, 2021, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro, Arkansas, at the age of 73 years.
On July 3, 1992, in Van Buren, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Annette Hessling. Mrs. Hux survives of their home in Jonesboro.
Rick was employed as a teacher and administrator for Dexter Public Schools in Dexter, Missouri and Van Buren Schools in Van Buren, Missouri. He was an administrator in Higher Education at Southeast Missouri State University in Malden, Missouri at the Bootheel Education Center and Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. He touched many lives during his years in education.
Rick enjoyed working in the yard, feeding his ducks, tutoring students in math, and spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Annette, and his mother, Connie, he is survived by four sons, Derick Hux and wife Paige of Desoto, Missouri, Travis Hux and wife Stella of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Clifton Hux of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and Toppy Hux of Nashville, Tennessee; by his daughter, Kriste Hux of Dexter, Missouri; by four brothers, Mark Hux of Aquilla, Missouri, Garry Hux, Terry Hux, and Jerry Hux, all of Essex, Missouri; by two sisters, Ginger Wessling of Essex, Missouri and Sherry O’Neal of Puxico, Missouri; by five grandchildren, Lindsey Norman and husband Seth and Madison McGowan and husband Corbin, all of Dexter, Missouri, Rylie Hux and Ryese Hux, both of DeSoto, Missouri, and Bella Hux of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; and by two great-grandchildren, Jackson Norman and Oaklyn Norman.
Visitation will be held at the Lighthouse Christian Center in Dexter, Missouri on Saturday, January 30, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will then be conducted at the Lighthouse Christian Center on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Tim Russell officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
