In Memory of James Walter Henderson

James Walter Henderson, son of the late Walt Henderson and Susie Gaines Henderson, was born on May 11, 1948 in Bloomfield, Missouri, and departed this life on October 29, 2020 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, at the age of 72 years.

Mr. Henderson was a Veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in Vietnam on Johnson Island. He was a former employee of Federal-Mogul in Malden, Missouri, the former head of maintenance for WW Wood Products in Dudley, Missouri, and the former Sheriff of Essex, Missouri. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bernie, Missouri, and the Bernie Masonic Lodge #573. He was the City of Bernie Alderman for Ward II and an Auctioneer. Jim helped in the family grocery store in Essex. He was a friend to everyone and considered them to a part of his family. He was a man of many talents including wood working, election, computers and passing his knowledge of chess to his Great Grandson Christopher who says his Gramps lived a good life filled with love.

On October 14, 1967, in Malden, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Beverley Pflueger. Mrs. Henderson survives of their home in Bernie.

In addition to his wife Beverley, by his daughter, Toni Brigman and husband Guy of Elmer, Oklahoma, he is survived by two sons, John Henderson of Bernie, and Roy Boyce and wife Ashley of Bloomfield; by four brothers, Bruce Gaines of Crocker, Missouri; Norman Henderson of Texas, Paul Henderson and Robin Henson both of Dexter; by three sisters, Nina Parsons of Altus, Arkansas, Betty Maraj of Virginia, and Barbara Christopher of Milton, Florida; by eight grandchildren, Aeriel Bates and husband David, Briana Brigman, Ashton Brigman, Piper Henderson, Dakota Henderson, Skyla Hoggard, Alyssa Boyce, and Clayton Henson; and by three great-grandchildren, Christopher Cryer, Marilee Musser, and Ellora McCarter.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Sunday, November 1, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Chapel on Monday, November 2, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Steve Fitzpatrick officiating.

Interment will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, with full military honors.

Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is in charge of arrangements.
