In Memory of Alan Robinson

Alan Robinson, son of F.L. Robinson and Helen Margaret Lizenbee Robinson, was born on April 6, 1952 in Dexter, Mo. and departed this life at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at 68 years of age.

Mr. Robinson was a lifelong resident of Southeast Missouri and a retired farmer.  He loved his family, farming, fishing, hunting, playing cards, and bowling.  Alan was especially proud of his grandkids and enjoyed spending time passing his legacy on to them.  He would take them fishing.  He taught them to drive the ranger and even taught them how to plant corn.  You could always count on his smile to light up a room, and his laughter was as big as his heart.  Only a guy like Alan could get away with lovingly referring to his wife as “Big Bertha” and bring a smile to her face while doing so.

He graduated from Bernie High School in 1970 and Three Rivers Junior College in 1972.  He married Jean Averett on August 22, 1972, in Dexter, Mo.  Mrs. Robinson survives of the home in Dexter, Mo.

Other survivors include his mother, Helen Robinson of Dexter, daughter, Dawn Marie Smathers and husband Daniel of Joplin; two grandchildren, Jeanna Dawn Smathers and Brant William Smathers; sister Brenda Kay Robinson of Dexter, and mother-in-law, Fannie Averett of Dexter.

Alan was blessed with a close relationship with his large extended family: his sister-in-law Jane Smith and husband, Leon, brother-in-law, Marty Averett and wife Lynn, and sister-in law, Kim Monteer and husband Jay; and many nieces and nephews: Summer & Todd McGowan, Gabe & Brooke Smith, Jordan & Candi Averett, Colton Averett, Hunter Collins, and Morgan Monteer.

Alan was preceded in death by his father, F.L. Robinson; son, Brent Alan Robinson; and nephew, Dustin Lee McGhee.
