Dexter High School Announcements for Tuesday, August 25, 2020

Dexter, MO - Students receive Daily Announcements and with this year being so different with COVID-19 I thought I would post a few each week to help keep the parents informed.   The Daily Announcements are on the school website also.  Here are a few key announcements from Tuesday, August 25, 2020.

Students must exit their vehicle and go toward the entrance when they arrive on campus, however they may remain outside until 7:40.  Beginning at 7:40 am all students on campus must go to their 1st period class.

Students and staff should have all received an email from Mrs. Dowdy with the form to select lunch on Wednesday.  Please make sure you fill this out only if you are planning to eat school lunch.

Thank you to all students and staff for doing such an incredible job adhering to our re-entry plan.  Your understanding and cooperation is greatly appreciated. Please make sure that your mask  covers your mouth and nostrils, but not your entire face.  We want to see and recognize you!

Dexter Future Business Leaders of America invites anyone who is enrolled or had a business class to join our club.  There is a form link in your graduation class Classroom, on our FBLA web page in Clubs and Organizations, or you can click here.  Join FBLA   Our dues are only $10, and we will not be requiring a fundraiser this year.  Questions?  Ask Mrs. Guy or one of the officers.

The sign-up sheet for basketball cheerleading tryouts are in the library. Anyone interested in trying out for basketball cheerleading must sign up and pick up an information packet no later than Wednesday, September 2nd. Contact Miss Jones with any questions.

Students please do not bring glass water bottles.  Water bottles must have a lid and be able to be closed completely.

Students who drive must exit the parking lot via Grant Street.  Students will not be allowed to get on Brown Pilot Road. If possible students should turn left on Grant or go across Grant to Jibben drive to avoid the Southwest traffic.  Mrs. Dowdy will be at that intersection assisting.

Students who are dropped off in the mornings - Please have your driver pull through in front of the high school using the 2nd lane (outer lane).  Please do not stop on Bearcat Drive to be dropped off.

Football players and tennis team members may move their car to the back lot after school.

Students must park in their assigned spot and their parking hang tag should be on the rearview mirror with the number facing out.  Please make sure the number is visible and there are not any other items hanging from your mirror obstructing the view.

Students who have not registered to park should fill out the 20-21 parking registration form.  The form is located on our website.

Students, masks are required in all of our common areas, such as hallways, lobbies and the cafeteria.  Masks are also required in any setting when not social distancing.  For effectiveness masks must cover your nose and mouth.

Dexter Public Schools - Instrumental Music Program - Sixth Grade Beginning Band Camp

Dexter Public Schools will hold beginning band camp next week, from Monday, July 27 through Friday, July 31.

This event is for all students who will be entering sixth grade band in the 2020-21 school year.

Classes will be held Monday through Friday in the band room at T.S. Hill Middle School; times vary depending on which instrument the student is playing.

The schedule for each instrument is:

8:30 a.m. – 9:20 a.m. Tuba and all Saxophones

9:30 a.m. – 10:20 a.m. Trumpet and Flute

10:30 a.m. – 11:20 a.m. Trombone and Clarinet

1:00 p.m. – 1:50 p.m. Baritone, Bassoon and Oboe

2:00 p.m. – 2:50 p.m. French Horn and Percussion

"Attendance at band camp is very important to instill proper fundamentals for the beginning instrumentalist," commented Cody Jinkerson, T.S. Hill Middle School Band Director. "It is vital to set good playing and practice habits from the start.  Students will have smaller learning groups to help address their individual needs."

They will not hold parent meetings this year during band camp due to COVID-19; however there will be parent orientation information communicated at a later date.

If parents have any questions, please feel free to email Mr. Jinkerson (cjinkerson@dexter.k12.mo.us) or Mr. Clay (kclay@dexter.k12.mo.us).  Mr. Clay is the new H.S. School Band Director and together Mr. Jinkerson and Mr. Clay will have a spectacular year with the Dexter students.

They look forward to making music with your children and we can't wait to attend band concerts!
