2020 Dexter High School Cross Country Schedule Released

2020 Dexter High School Cross Country Schedule Released

Dexter, MO - The 2020 Dexter High School Boys and Girls Cross Country schedule has been released.

Dexter will host their Invitational on Saturday, October 24th.

There are twelve senior athletes, four girls and eight boys, which represents almost half of the DHS Cross Country team.  "It is the largest class I have had in nine years as coach", commented Leonard Morse, CC Head Coach at Dexter.

On the boys side the Bearcats are returning two lettermen from last year.  "We have good depth once again and should be solid competition for the sixth and seventh varsity spots all season as our scoring top five will all return."

On the girls side the Bearcats it's going to be difficult to replace Margo Nea.  "Margo graduated and leaves a significant hole at the top of our roster," commented Morse.  "We do have several returning on the varsity team however."

Seniors are McKayla Annesser, Ryder Boles, Gavin Cartwright, Jaycee Chappell, Gage Coleman, Carter Dorton, Andrew Ellinghouse, Austin Kenard, Alanie Lacy, Layne Medler, Ronald Palmer, and Matthew.

Juniors Gabrielle Brown, Sophia Chasteen, and Miller McLaughlin.

Sophomores are Clayton Bell, Alyssa Gross, Hunner Kyle, Maddox Miller, Mason Simmons, Chris Stone, and Kalyn Traw.

Freshmen are Wyatt Comfort, Lily Crockett, Abby Loyd, and Ayden Palmer.

"If the season is able to progress all the way without Covid-19 interruptions, I think we will have a very solid season," commented Coach morse.  "I believe that our boys have a legitimate shot to earn a state berth as a team for the first time since 1971."

"With the realignment to five classes instead of four, we do not have to compete with Festus and DeSoto.  We still have Herculaneum and Potosi.  We are not sure with the new assignment rules where exactly Notre Dame will fit.  Even with Festus, DeSoto, and others moving up, our boys will still have to work hard to earn their berth, and that is without knowledge of who will be joining our district. "

"We have added some new runners this year that will improve our overall teams.  I look forward to see how the new runners develop and what they are able to contribute to the programs.  As with our veterans, the immediate success of our program and its continued development depend on how hard our runners work and how well they buy into the system.  I am expecting our many seniors to mentor our younger runners and lead encourage them to become the best runners and the best people they can be."
