In Memory of Charles Michael Harmon

Charles Michael Harmon, son of the late Bob Harmon and Lula Owens Harmon was born on July 16, 1959 in Kennett, Missouri and departed this life on May 28, 2020 at the St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 60.

Mike was a custom Fertilizer Applicator for the Mule Barn in Dudley.  He was also a member of the Pleasant Grove Community Church in Pyletown.  Mike enjoyed working in his shed with wood and building different things.  He enjoyed his and Terry’s vacations together.

On July 21, 1979 he was united in marriage to Terry Brittingham in Dexter.  Terry survives of their home in Dexter.

Besides his wife, Terry, he is survived by one sister, Phyllis Rogers and husband Jonah of Dexter; by his sister in law and brother in law, Tammy and Jimmy Green of Dudley; by four special nephews; by two special nieces and by a cousin who he thought of as a brother, Bryan Beck and by additional family members and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 1, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter. 

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Paul Pierce officiating.

Interment will follow at the Sycamore Cemetery.

In Memory of Rubey June Kastner

Rubey June Kastner, daughter of the late Joel Richardson and Nellie Goodman Richardson, was born on April 22, 1931 in Gideon, Missouri, and departed this life on May 26, 2020 at Winchester Nursing Center in Bernie, Missouri, at the age of 89 years.

Mrs. Kastner was a former packer for Elder Manufacturing and she also worked in maintenance for Wal-Mart.  Growing up she delivered milk from her family farm.  She was a dedicated member of the First Church of God in Dexter and she enjoyed playing the piano for their church services.  She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.  She loved to draw and work crossword puzzles. 

She was united in marriage to Emanuel E. S. Kastner on April 10, 1966 in Dexter, Missouri.  Mr. Kastner preceded her in death on March 26, 1976.

She is survived by her daughter, Terre Walker and husband Richard of Bernie; and by two grandchildren, Dillon Walker and Courtney Walker.

Other than by her husband and parents, she was preceded death by six brothers, Joel Richardson, Donald Richardson, Charles Richardson, Amos Richardson, Theodore Richardson, and Bob Richardson; and by her sister, Sarah Agnes Entrikin.

 A private, family only, funeral service will be conducted at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Saturday, May 30, 2020.  Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.

In Memory of Roger Dale Dunn Sr

Roger Dale Dunn Sr., son of the late Veltoy Dunn and Pauline Allen Dunn, was born on April 28, 1953, in Pontiac, Michigan, and departed this life on May 25, 2020, at his residence in Thayer, Missouri, at the age of 67 years.

Mr. Dunn was a veteran of the United States Army and he had worked on electronics.

He is survived by his son, Roger Dale Dunn Jr. and wife Tammy of Malden; by his sister, Rebecca Koechner and husband James of Advance; and by five grandchildren, Cody Dunn, Chelsey Dunn, Cameron Dunn, Collin Dunn and Kennedi Dunn.

Other than by his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Wesley Dunn.

A memorial service will be planned for a later date.

Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is in charge of all arrangements.

In Memory of Edward Taylor

Edward Taylor, son of the late Tommy Taylor and Doney Page Taylor, was born on August 2, 1937 in Haleyville, Alabama and departed this life on May 23, 2020, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri at the age of 82 years.

Mr. Taylor was a former employee of Noranda Aluminum, working in the Pot Room and he was a resident of Dexter.  He enjoyed fishing, watching the Atlanta Braves, listening to music, and talking with people.

He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Midgett and husband Robert of Dexter; by his brother, Leldon Taylor and wife Judy of Phil Campbell, Alabama; by two granddaughters, Natalie Midgett of Dexter and Hannah Midgett of Dexter; and by his nephew, Tim Taylor of Phil Campbell, Alabama.

Other than by his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dessie Langley and Ineze Hamby; and by his nephew, Danny Hamby.

Friends may call at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Thursday, May 28, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. 

Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Chapel on Friday, May 29, 2020 at 2:30 p.m.  Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.

Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is in charge of all arrangements.

In Memory of Robert “Bob” Mayer

Robert “Bob” Mayer of Dexter passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 after a short battle with Covid-19. 

He was born on October 15, 1931 in East St. Louis, Illinois to Norman and Irene Mayer.  He married his high school, sweetheart, Ruth Esther Worley on January 12, 1951, and found happiness again when he married his second wife, Betty Sue Garner on February 18, 2012.  He adored family, farming, cattle, onions, the St. Louis Cardinals, and old westerns.  He led a full and active social life, including standing coffee with buddies at Burger King and McDonald’s, Wednesday night gatherings with friends at Pizza Hut, and lunch and bingo at the Dexter Senior Center.  Always a jokester, anytime he was asked what he was up to, Bob predictably responded, “About five foot, three.”

He spent his career farming. Bob was active in his community serving as deacon and elder of First Christian Church and on the boards of Southeast Missouri Raney Farm, Southeast Coop, local MFA, and Stoddard County Soil and Conservation. He was also a proud member of the Missouri National Guard for 12 years.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Mayer of Dexter; his daughter, Susan Bartlett of Cape Girardeau; a grandson, Robb Bartlett (Amanda) of Cape Girardeau; a granddaughter, Leigh Havelick (Dave) of Portland, Oregon; and four great grandchildren, Abe, Gus, Ben, and Addison.  He is preceded in death by his parents, identical twin brother, Richard, and his first wife, Ruth.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Friday, May 29, 2020 at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. 

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. at Dexter Cemetery with Rev. Mike Williams officiating. 

The family asks that masks be worn out of respect to fellow attendees.
