Matt Greer, son of Beverly Hunter of Dexter and the late Joe Hunter was born on May 12, 1964 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri and departed this life on March 31, 2020 in Chesterfield, Missouri at the age of 55.
Matt graduated from Dexter High School in 1982. He was a standout athlete in football, basketball and baseball. For the Dexter Bearcats, he was an All-State line-backer in football and he excelled as catcher for the baseball team. Matt was recruited by many colleges to play baseball and eventually signed with the University of Missouri, receiving an athletic scholarship. Matt Greer lived a life of humility and integrity. His heart beat for his family and friends, and his faith was unwavering. For those that knew him, he was a giant, but one that didn’t need a spotlight. His work for others was in private, but his light and love spread to every person he met. He could connect with each person, because his heart was pure. Everyone that knew Matt, knew his soul. And he worked every day to better support, praise, and love those in his life.
Matt was an insurance agent and agency owner for State Farm. Through promotions, Matt operated under different roles within State Farm. He operated his own agency in Dexter for many years. In July of 2010, he started operating his own State Farm agency in Chesterfield, Missouri and developed many relationships in that community.
Matt was a member of the Our Lady of Pillar Church in Creve Coeur, Missouri and a resident of Chesterfield, Missouri.
On August 8, 1987 he was united in marriage to Lisa Crump in Dexter, Missouri. Mrs. Greer survives of their residence in Chesterfield, Missouri.
Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by two sons, Matthew Greer and wife Megan of Kirkwood, Missouri and Marcus Greer of Chesterfield, Missouri; by one daughter, Gabrielle Greer and her husband Michael Baltes of St. Louis, Missouri; by four brothers, Tom Espey of Dexter, Missouri, Stacy Greer of Dexter, Missouri, Tracy Greer of Sedalia, Missouri and Joe Hunter of Colorado Springs, Colorado; by two sisters, Debbie Hunter of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Melinda Hunter of Landers, Wyoming; by his sister in law and brother in law, Lori and Greg Booth of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; by his father in law and mother in law, Gary and Judy Crump of Dexter, Missouri. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews, that he was so proud of.
Besides his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, Lance Espey.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Greer family wants you to know, a Celebration of Matt’s life will be held, once restrictions have been lifted. Lisa, and the children want to thank you all for the memories you’ve shared and the prayers you have prayed for their family.
