James R. Stogsdill, son of the late James Perry Stogsdill and Elizabeth Francis Boulware Stogsdill, was born on March 20, 1928 in Marble Hill, Missouri and departed this life on February 29, 2020 at Southeast Health of Stoddard County at the age of 91 years.
Mr. Stogsdill was a veteran of the United States Army. For 43 years, he was a laborer for Granite City Steel in Granite City, Illinois and he was a preacher. He was a resident of Dexter, Missouri and he loved the St. Louis Cardinals.
In 1963, in Granite City, Illinois, he was united in marriage to Verda Ryan. Mrs. Stogsdill preceded him in death on September 18, 1996.
He is survived by four daughters, Leah Stogsdill of Bernie, Missouri, Jackie Kelley of Piggott, Arkansas, Betty Rainey of Granite City, Illinois, and Kathy McCarty of White Oak, Texas; by two sisters, Helen Patton of Rolla, Missouri and Bonnie Curtis of Bristol, Virginia; by eleven grandchildren; by twenty-three great-grandchildren; and by three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; by his son, James Ronald Stogsdill; by his daughter, Sandy Gaudreault; by his brother, Raymond; and by four sisters, Leona, Lorene, Opal, and Ruby.
Friends may call at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Steve Fitzpatrick officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at 10:30 a.m.
