August Gene Jackson, son of the late August Franklin Jackson and Rose Parks Jackson, was born on June 29, 1927 in Aid, Missouri and departed this life on February 29, 2020 at Southeast Health of Stoddard County, in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 92 years and 8 months.

Mr. Jackson was a 1945 graduate of Bloomfield High School.  Following graduation, he began working full-time on the family farm.

On July 21, 1945, he was united in marriage to Irma Lea Stephens, in Bloomfield, Missouri, and they had two daughters, Martha and Joyce.  Mrs. Jackson preceded him in death on May 19, 2019.  They were married for 73 years.

Mr. Jackson lived in the Aid community where he and Mrs. Jackson enjoyed farming together.  He was a long-time member of Liberty Hill General Baptist Church in Aid, where he had served as a deacon and in various other positions throughout the years.  He especially enjoyed teaching Sunday School.  Currently, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Dexter.

During his earlier years of farming, Mr. Jackson served as treasurer on the Board of Supervisors of the Stoddard County Soil and Water Conservation District.  He and his family enjoyed traveling to summer conferences across the state and meeting other farm families.

In retirement, he and Mrs. Jackson enjoyed traveling across the country, often taking grandchildren with them.  Mr. Jackson joined Gideons International and he and Irma were active members for several years; visiting churches, attending camp meetings, and traveling to a few national conferences.

He is survived by two daughters, Martha Hughes and husband Joe of Jefferson City, Missouri and Joyce Kinder and husband Steve of Dexter, Missouri; by four grandchildren, Matthew Kinder and wife Sally of Dexter, Missouri, Leslie Pyle and husband Joe of Dexter, Missouri, Marianne Hughes of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Melissa Hughes of Wardsville, Missouri; and by nine great-grandchildren, Hannah Whitten and husband Pierson of Wardsville, Missouri, Peyton Luebbering of Wardsville, Missouri, James and Ava Faulconer of Jefferson City, Missouri, Emily, Katie and Lucy Pyle of Dexter, Missouri, and Rachel and Rebekah Kinder of Dexter, Missouri.

Friends may call at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. 

Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. with Rev. Rick Roberts officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter.
