In Memory of Gerald E. Jackson

Gerald E. Jackson, 93, was born in Aid, MO on September 13, 1926 to Oscar (Lon) Jackson and Jessie (Parks) Jackson and departed this life on February 27, 2020 at Cypress Point Nursing Home in Dexter, MO. 

Gerald was born, lived and farmed in the Aid community until he retired at the age of 65.   He attended school in Aid until the 8th grade at which time the school was consolidated with Bloomfield, ultimately graduating from Bloomfield High School in 1944.  Gerald was united in marriage to Wanda (Woolard) Jackson on May 18, 1946, in Piggott, Arkansas.  Wanda preceded him in death on September 25, 2015.

Gerald was devoted in raising their four children, and later enjoyed attending many school activities in support of his grandchildren.  He took great pride in his dairy and row-crop farming operation.  Gerald loved to play traveling baseball throughout southeast Missouri in his younger years and later became well-known for his expertise for pitching horseshoes and playing checkers.  He served two terms on the Bloomfield R-XIV Board of Education and was proud of the fact that his children graduated from college.  Upon retiring from farming, Gerald and Wanda moved to Dexter in 1991.  Gerald was a former member of the Liberty Hill General Baptist Church, Aid, MO and current member of Risen Church in Dexter, MO. 

He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Duckworth (Clinton), Dexter, MO; his sons, Ken Jackson (Jamie), Dexter, MO, and Mark Jackson (Kim), Bloomfield, MO; nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by one sister, Pauline Gaskins, of Dexter, MO and one sister-in-law, Jean Jackson of Dexter, MO.

Gerald was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda, of 69 years; his parents and stepmother, Nora Shrum Jackson; one brother, Farrell Jackson; one sister, Geraldine Pelat; and a son, Ron Jackson.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 1 from Noon to 1:30 pm with the funeral immediately following at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, MO.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Harper Cemetery, c/o Elvin Kingree, 11399 County Road 420, Dudley, MO 63936, or a charity of your choice.

Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is in charge of all arrangements.
