Phyllis J. Dowdy, daughter of the late Thebert Coleman and Marjorie Lane Coleman, was born on May 15, 1946 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri and departed this life on February 17, 2020 at Bloomfield Living Center in Bloomfield, Missouri at the age of 73 years.
Mrs. Dowdy was a former activity director for Crowley Ridge Care Center and a home health care provider. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Church in Dexter and a former Sunday school teacher. She was a former member and past state officer of the Missouri Young Farm Wives Association.
On July 1, 1967, in rural Dexter, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Johnie Dowdy. Mr. Dowdy survives of their home in Dexter.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Jon Ryan Dowdy and wife Dawn of Dexter; by her sister, Kathy Coleman of Dexter; by two grandchildren, Jessica Lesley and Michaela Shafer; and by three great-grandchildren, Liam Shafer, Levi Shafer and Lillian Elliott.
Friends may call at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Thursday, February 20, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Chapel on Friday, February 21, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Tom Potter officiating. Interment will follow in the Armstead Dowdy Cemetery in Dexter.
