
Cape Girardeau, MO - The Dexter High School chapter of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) attended the District Leadership Conference on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University on Tuesday, February 4, 2020. Students competed in a variety of events from computer skills tests to case studies/presentations and interviews to online exams.

Dexter, MO - Southwest Elementary will begin taking Pre-K screening appointments for the 2020-2021 school year on February 3rd. This screening will be held on Friday, March 6th from 8:30-2:00 pm in the Southwest gym.
Children must be 4 years of age before July 31st, 2020 and plan to start kindergarten during the 2021-2022 school year to be eligible to attend the upcoming school year.
Please call the Southwest Office at 614-1015 ext. 1201 to schedule this very important appointment.
The following mandatory documentation must be provided at the time of screening in order for your child to be enrolled:
Birth certificate, shot record (does not have to be up to date) and proof of residency.
The proof of residency MUST be a financial obligation to the address- ex: Utility bill, water bill, tax statement, mortgage statement, etc.
The LAST day for making this appointment will be Friday, February 21, 2020.

Dexter, MO - The Dexter School Board held a regular board meeting on January 23, 2020. Below are the minutes from that meeting.
Call to Order/Roll Call/Pledge The Board President announced the meeting is to begin, ascertains the attendance status of all board members present. He then leads in the saying of the Pledge of Allegiance.
Consent Agenda: The Consent Agenda was approved.
Public Comments: There were no public comments made.
Old Business:
A. None
New Business:
A. The board approved the bid for 2 buses to be purchased for the 2020-21 school year. One is a 71-passenger bus and the other is a 44-passenger bus equipped with a wheelchair lift. The buses will carry a five-year/100,000 mile engine warranty and a seven-year transmission warranty. The district has 27 total buses, which consist of 19 route buses and the rest being spares and one salvage bus.
B. The board approved Option B for the 2020-21 school calendar. (The calendar is not printed yet and as soon as it is available the ShowMe Times will post it) Special Services Director Amy James presented two options to the board. The staff was asked for opinions as well and to vote on the calendar. The staff voted in favor of Calendar B by a narrow 53.7% to 46.3%. The first day of school will be August 24, 2020 and will end on May 21, 2021 with graduation May 14th.
C. The board approved summer school dates for the 2020 summer school session. May 20th thru June 17, 2020.
D. The board approved budget amendments for the 2019-20 school year.

Dexter, Missouri - The Dexter High School held their 2020 Winter Homecoming on Friday, January 25th at the Bearcat Event Center.
Second alternate is Natalie Sells. She is the daughter of Joe and Kate Sells.
First alternate is Alexa Werneck. She is the daughter of Chad and Amber Werneck.
Winter Homecoming Queen is Blair Rogers. She is the daughter of Robin Northern and the late Aaron Rogers.
