In Memory of Virginia Mangus

Virginia Mangus, age 80, of Dexter, MO; passed away, on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at her sons’ residence in Cape Girardeau, MO surrounded by her children, grandchildren and many friends.

She was born April 13, 1939 in St. Louis, MO; daughter of Edward and Mable Marie Hart Enders.

She and Foster Edwards Mangus were united in marriage in 1957 and he passed away on March 3, 2014.

Virginia started Mangus and Associates insurance agency in 1970, in Dexter, MO; and was a member Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witnesses at the Cape South Congregation.

Survivors include her sons Scott Mangus of Poplar Bluff, MO; Brad Mangus of Cape Girardeau, MO; Dan Mangus of Columbia, MO; daughter Laura Suzie Richardson of Cape Girardeau, MO; brother Edward Owen Enders of St. Louis, MO; sister Marlene Morrow of Dexter, MO; seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses located 1150 South Silver Springs Road in Cape Girardeau, MO on Saturday, November 9. 2019 at 2:00 p.m.

In Memory of Dorothy Leene Paxton

Dorothy Leene Paxton born on February 17, 1931, went home to be with our Lord on Monday, November 4, 2019 at the age of 88 years.

Mrs. Paxton never met a stranger; she was the best cook in the world.  She was loved by so many and loved everyone, she spent her whole life living going to church, living for God, and raising seven children. Dorothy set very best example for us, and taught us all of the important life lessons.  She will be very missed by so many especially her large family that she leaves behind.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Mela Fisk; one daughter Peggy Ann Paxton; and all five of her siblings.

She is survived by four daughters and two sons, Linda McCoy, Donna Graham, Deborah Williams, William (Bill) Paxton, Elizabeth Smith, and Stephen Paxton.  Also, 17 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren, whom she adored.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M Thursday, November 7, 2019 at the The Sanctuary of Southeast Missouri in Sikeston, Missouri.

A Celebration of life and homecoming will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday, November 8, 2019 at the Sanctuary of Southeast Missouri in Sikeston with Rev. Jay Teague officiating. 

Interment will follow in the New Morley Cemetery.

In Memory of Edith Jerline Gregory

Edith Jerline Gregory, daughter of the late W. E. Vails and Virgie Mounce Vails, was born on August 2, 1929 in Risco, Missouri and departed this life on November 5, 2019 at Southeast Health in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the age of 90 years.

Mrs. Gregory was a former school bus driver for Dexter R-XI School District for 22 years.  She was a member of the First Church of Nazarene, a housewife and a resident of Dexter.

On August 24, 1946 in Piggott, Arkansas, she was united in marriage to Denver Gregory.  Mr. Gregory survives of their home in Dexter.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four sons, Jerry Gregory and wife Marsha of Rockford, Illinois, Barry Gregory and wife Debra of Rockford, Illinois, Dennis Gregory of Bernie, Missouri and  Rick Gregory and wife Lori of Atlanta, Georgia; by three brothers, Roy Vails of Dexter, Missouri, George Vails of Puxico, Missouri and Franklin Vails of Campbell, Missouri; by two sisters, Lola Thomas of Stuart Draft, Virginia and Nadine Donalson of Rockford, Illinois; by ten grandchildren and by thirteen great-grandchildren.    

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harley Vails and Charles Vails and by two sisters, Avamda Valentine and Eula Owens.

Friends may call at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Saturday, November 9, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. 

Funeral services will then be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Doug West officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Hagy Cemetery.

Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is in charge of all arrangements.

In Memory of George Allan Frye

George Allan Frye of Dexter, son of the late George Sharpe and Myrtle Marie Northsworthy Frye, was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 14, 1954, and passed away at his wifes residence in Dexter, November 5, 2019, at the age of 65 years, 2 months and 22 days.

George had lived in Cumberland, Maryland before moving to Missouri in 2006. George enjoyed visiting with people and he worked as a brick layer for years.

On July 12, 1978 he married Suzanne Kay Greene in Detroit, Michigan.

Surviving are his wife, Suzanne Frye of Dexter; five sons, Ronald Allan Greene, Randy James Frye, David Nathaniel Frye, Joseph Michael Frye all of Dexter; Daniel Elijah Frye of Bloomfield; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; one brother, Keith Myers of Florida; one sister, Tracie Myers, of Michigan. Other relatives and many friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one brother John Wayne Frye; one sister LuAnn Frye.

Memorial service will be held at a later date, with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Missouri in charge of arrangements.

In Memory of Paul Dennis Albee

Paul Dennis Albee of Oran, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at the age of 74.

Dennis was born on October 27, 1945 to Wilbur “Pete” and Dorothy (Butler) Albee in Kansas City, Missouri.  He graduated from Dexter High School in 1963.  On August 21, 1966, he married Donna Jean Carr.  They raised one daughter, Teresa.

Dennis owned and operated Albee Auto Supply for many years in Oran.  After closing the store, he was employed by a few different companies until becoming employed with Proctor and Gamble.  He retired from P & G in 2008.

Dennis was active in several organizations. The Promenaires Square Dance Club, Oran Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Scott County Rural Fire District, Scott County Reserve Deputy Sheriff, Morley Masonic Lodge #184 A.F. and A.M., Lakeville Masonic Lodge #489, and GWRRA Missouri Chapter I.

Dennis enjoyed deer hunting with his brothers, riding Goldwing motorcycles with his wife, Donna, and the Goldwing chapter. He also enjoyed scuba diving, horseback riding, and spending time with his grandson, Clay.

Dennis was Oran Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year in 1985, Fire Chief for Oran Volunteer Fire Department and Scott County Rural Fire District.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Wilbur “Pete”, his mother, Dorothy, and step-mother Zada.  He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Donna, and daughter Teresa (Chad) Clevenger, his brothers Frank (Carol), Ed (Sue), and sister Lenore (Charlie), several cousins, nieces and nephews, and grandson Clay.

Visitation will be held at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran, Missouri on Friday, November 8, 2019 from 4-8 pm. 

Funeral services will be at the Chapel Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 11 am. 

Burial will follow services at Friend Cemetery.
