In Memory of Hollas S. Montgomery

Hollas S. Montgomery, son of the late John S. Montgomery and Paralie King Montgomery, was born on November 11, 1921 in Bernie, Missouri and departed this life on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at Cypress Point Skilled Nursing in Dexter, Missouri at the age of 97 years.

Mr. Montgomery was a retired farmer and a resident of Dexter.  He was a member of the Second General Baptist Church in Dexter.  He was a fixture at auctions in Southeast Missouri, attending them all the way into his nineties. 

He was first united in marriage to Kathryn Kimbrel on November 21, 1943; she preceded him in death on October 25, 1994.  He was then united in marriage to Darlene Reed on January 1, 2001; she preceded him in death in April of 2018.

He is survived by his son, Carroll Montgomery and wife Etheleen of Dexter, Missouri; by three daughters, Sharon Helfrich and husband Eugene of Columbia, Illinois, Joyce Thompson of Summerfield, Florida and by Sherry Montgomery of Dexter, Missouri;  by two brothers, Bill Montgomery of West Paducah, Kentucky and Sam Montgomery of Dexter, Missouri; by one sister, JoAnn Golden of Malden, Missouri; by nine grandchildren, Keith Montgomery, Kara Lummukka, Nickolas Helfrich, Hannah Neibling, Jami Thompson, Jace Thompson, Kelly Hutson, Tyler Montgomery and Jordan Thurman and by fifteen great-grandchildren.

Besides his wives and parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Terry Scott Montgomery, by six brothers, Jerry Dean Montgomery, Garfield Montgomery, Leon Montgomery, Bob Montgomery, Paul Montgomery and Breman Montgomery; by one sister, Lola Young; by one granddaughter, Shelly Montgomery and by one great-granddaughter, Anna Montgomery.

Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, August 11, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. 

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, August 12, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Steve Tippen officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.

Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is in charge of all arrangements.
