Dexter School Board Meeting Minutes - June 27, 2019

Dexter, Missouri - The Dexter School Board held their Regular Board Meeting on June 27, 2019 at 6 p.m. Below are the minutes from that meeting.
1,2,3. Call to Order/Roll Call/Pledge The Board President announced the meeting is to begin, ascertains the attendance status of all board members present. He then leads in the saying of the Pledge of Allegiance.
4. Consent Agenda: The Consent Agenda was approved.
5. Public Comments: There were no public comments made.
6. Old Business:
A. None
7. New Business:
A - D. The board approved all student handbooks for the 2019-20
school year.
E. The board approved the Professional Development Handbook
for the 2019-20 school year.
F. The board approved the Technology Plan for 2019-2022.
G. The board approved budget amendments for Fund 2 for the
2018-19 as presented.
H. The board approved a General Fund Transfer to Zero-Out
the Special Fund Balance.
I The board approved the 2019-20 Budget as presented
J. The board approved full pay breakfast and lunch prices for the
2019-20 school year.
Student K-5 grade $1.20 and $1.85
6-12 grade $1.35 and $1.90
Adult $1.80 and $2.30
8. Discussion Items:
A. The attendance and discipline reports were presented from each building.
B. Mr. Miller presented the 2018-19 Transportation Summary Report
C. Mr. Miller presented the 2018-19 bus inspection results.
D. The superintendent gave his report to the board.
E. The next board meeting was set for July 23, 2019 at 6:00 p.m.
In Closed Session:
1. The board approved the transfer of Brooke Dodson to
title teacher at Central Elementary
2. The board approved certified staff for 2019-20

3. The board approved the employment of Aides for 2019-20.

2019-20 school year
Items at the conclusion of Executive Session
A. The board discussed filling the vacant member board position for the remaining 8 months left on the term. The board decided
not to replace the position due the short term remaining and the board felt that the voters of the District should be allowed to pick their board member in the April election. The board believes an appointment from the board would give an unfair advantage in the next election to whomever the board selected.

Emily Smith Academic Signing with Southeast Missouri State University

Dexter, Missouri - Academic signings were held at the Bearcat Event Center for seniors who are 2019 graduates of Dexter High School. Students and their parents were invited to a luncheon as well.
Emily Smith is the daughter of Heather and Ryan Greer and Chris Smith.
She will attend Southeast Missouri State University in the fall.
Emily was awarded the Residential Life Scholarship, the Copper Dome Scholarship, and the Rhodes Annuity totalling $8,000.
She plans to earn a BSN in Nursing and become a Neonatal Nurse.

Three Rivers College Honors Destiny Cagle at Student Excellence Awards

Destiny Cagle is from Dexter, Missouri and earned her Excellence Award in Student Leadership Academy.
Three Rivers College recognized more than 40 of its highest performing students at its Annual Student Excellence Awards ceremony. Winners were chosen to represent each academic department and career education program, the Three Rivers external locations, honor societies, and major student organizations.
“The Student Excellence Awards are a celebration not only of academic success but of the hard work and commitment of our student body,” said Dr. Wesley Payne, President of Three Rivers College. “The success these students have achieved is not only an indication of natural ability and talent, but also their dedication to putting in the time and doing the work that makes them the standouts of Three Rivers.”
Winners from academic and career programs are chosen by that program’s leadership based on recommendations from faculty members. The leadership of each organization selects student organization, external location, and honor society award recipients.
Three Rivers College is committed to contributing to the quality of life in Southeast Missouri with quality, affordable higher education opportunities and community services that support and encourage the economic, civic, and cultural vitality of the region.
