NewWave Communications Awards $3,000 to DHS Student News Group
Schools and organizations serving K-12 students in communities served by NewWave Communications recently had the opportunity to win $3,000 to fund their technology project or club as part of NewWave’s “Dream Bigger” social media campaign.

Among the five winners is Dexter High School’s Student News Group, Bearcat News, which will use the funds to purchase updated equipment such as teleprompters, monitors, audio, and visual equipment. The news team records daily school announcements as well as a full program on Friday and PSAs – all with handheld cameras.

"We are so grateful for this donation,” said Shelly Culp, a DHS business education teacher who oversees the news group and submitted the nomination. “We are looking into items such as a permanent green screen area, audio control equipment, software, and video equipment. These funds will allow us to greater resemble a professional news studio. Many of the students who take this class are looking into careers in the broadcasting field. With this donation, we can provide a meaningful high school experience, and prepare them with hands-on training in the latest technology and equipment used in the broadcasting field."

“We are impressed with what the student news group has been able to accomplish with their limited budget,” said Reid Morgan, NewWave General Manager in Dexter. “NewWave is committed to giving back to the communities we serve. We look forward to seeing Dexter High students take Bearcat News to the next level and watching them develop into the future leaders of our community.”
