PBHS English Students Experience ‘Macbeth’
The Shakespeare Festival St. Louis performed the tragedy “Macbeth” for almost 400 Poplar Bluff High School English students on Thursday, March 14, in the Tinnin Center at Three Rivers College.

Directed and adapted by Joanna Battles, the free William Shakespeare play was part of the acting company’s 2019 education tour made possible through a Monsanto Fund grant.

Following the condensed hour-long performance, the five-person acting team held a Q&A with the students in attendance. Asked about ad-lib, actor Ted Drury responded: “The only real mistakes in theater are the ones you admit to. Theater is a team sport.”

The field trip was arranged by communication arts teacher Jennie Randolph, who reached out to tour management after learning that the traveling production is open to underserved rural parts of the state, in addition to the greater St. Louis area. The last time the Shakespeare Festival came to Poplar Bluff was six years ago, according to tour manager Emily Clinger.

4th Grade Student Tanner Massey Donates Book to Keller Library

Dexter, Missouri - Students in Candice Averett's fourth grade class at Central Elementary in Dexter were asked to write an essay stating where they wanted to go for a field trip.

The purpose of the essay was to convince the rest of the class to vote for the best location each student wrote about.

One student went a step farther and decided to have a book bound and to donate the book entitled, "Best Field Trip Ever" to Keller Public Library children's section.

Tanner Massey is quite the writer himself and wanted to inspire other students to write.  His page was about seeing the infamous Pittsburgh Steelers, a professional football team.

When asked why he decided to have the book bound and placed at the library........."I wanted to inspire other students to write," commented Massey.  "And having the book at the library so others can see what we wrote."

Pictured from left to right are Keller Children's Librarian Bree goldschmidt, Keller Library Director Pam Trammell, and Tanner Massey.

Tanner dedicated the book to all Veterans, those that served and are serving the military currently.
