Cape Girardeau, Missouri - Steven D. Langdon, Ed.D, has been appointed by the Southeast Missouri Hospital College of Nursing and Health Sciences Board of Trustees to serve as President of the College.

Prior to being appointed President, Dr. Langdon served as Interim Academic Vice President of the University of Providence in Great Falls, MT. He also was Principal-In-Charge with Learning Applied, LLC, a consulting service he operated for organizations of higher education.

Dr. Langdon comes to SoutheastHEALTH with expansive experience in higher education leadership. He has built and empowered academic teams in diverse settings and has developed cultures of quality, integrity and accountability within cross-functional team in both two-year and four-year institutions.

“Quality patient care hinges on having a well-educated nursing staff. Research has shown that lower mortality rates, fewer medication errors and positive outcomes are all linked to nurses who are well prepared,” said Ken Bateman, President and CEO of SoutheastHEALTH. “I am confident that Dr. Langdon will work collaboratively to create a highly qualified healthcare workforce who understand that education enhances both clinical competency and patient care delivery.”

Dr. Langdon said his vision for the college is to “cultivate and advance the College of Nursing and Health Sciences to be a powerhouse for exceptional learning experiences, supporting students in the learning process, fostering personal growth, discovering more about themselves and developing a mindset needed for professional advancement in a healthcare field of their choice.” He added that “being a part of SoutheastHEALTH provides great opportunities for students to gain excellent, hands-on experience and professional preparation in an outstanding healthcare system. I am also excited to work for SoutheastHEALTH and to be a part of a healthcare system recognized for providing an excellent patient care experience.”

Being in Missouri is like coming home, Dr. Langdon observed. “Being raised in eastern Kansas, I spent much of my time on road trips to Kansas City and St. Louis. My wife, children and I also have enjoyed spending time around Branson. I look forward to the beauty of the four seasons, rolling hills, rivers and streams, wildlife and the hometown feeling of Cape Girardeau.”

Dr. Langdon holds a Doctorate of Education: Educational Leadership from Oakland City University, Oakland City, IN. He also holds Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in Athletic Training from Ohio University in Athens, and the University of Kansas in Lawrence, respectively.

His professional memberships include the Robert K. Greenleaf Center for Servant Leadership, ASCD: Professional Learning & Community for Educators, National Athletic Trainers Association and the American College of Sports Medicine.
