Sam Traxel Earns Dicken scholarship
Sam Traxel of the Poplar Bluff High School Class of 2018 has been awarded the $500 Kyle Curtis Dicken Memorial scholarship, available to graduating seniors pursuing music. Traxel plans to study audio engineering technology at Belmont University in Nashville.

Designing Women Foundation Honors Students
The Designing Women Foundation honored three scholarship recipients and Charlie Classics reading contest winners from Poplar Bluff Schools during a reception held Monday, May 14, at the Bloodworth House.
 
PBHS senior Kenneth Hadley earned the $2,000 Charlie Classics Scholarship by reading 101 approved novels beginning in Junior High. Kenneth received an additional $300 Visa bank card for being the top reader in the Class of 2018, completing 42 Charlie Classics throughout the school year, and has been the top reader in his class since eighth grade. Seventh grader Charlee Deaton read a total of 45 books this school year, also earning a $300 bank card.
 
PBHS senior Alexis Tinsley was selected by a committee to receive the $1,000 Designing Women Foundation scholarship, designated for a female student. She plans to attend Union University in Jackson, Tenn., where she will major in pre-med.
 
Aimed to promote literacy, the Charlie Classics reading program is open to all Junior and Senior High students. To qualify for a US Bank-sponsored card—also awarded to second place winners in the amount of $150—Senior High students must read at least 10 classics and Junior High students must read a minimum of 20 books from the respective lists.

Dexter, Missouri - The Dexter Public School Board met on May 21, 2018 at a regularly scheduled board meeting.  Below are the minutes from that meeting.

6:00 PM

1,2,3.   Call to Order/Roll Call/Pledge  The Board President announced the meeting is to begin, ascertains the attendance status of all board members with all members being present.  He then leads in the saying of the Pledge of Allegiance. 

4.  Consent Agenda:   The consent agenda was approved. 

5.  Public Comments:   There were no public comments.

6.  Old Business: None at this time. 

7.  New Business: 
A.  The board approved the chromebook purchase to SHI for 1 to 1 chromebooks at the Middle School.
B.  The board approved the purchase of AimsWeb Plus as a universal screener to be utilized for dyslexia screenings.
C.  The board tabled the approval of the Southwest Elementary handbook.
D.  The board tabled the approval of the Central Elementary handbook.
E.   The board tabled the approval of the Middle School handbook.
F.   The board tabled the approval of the High School handbook.
    
8.  Discussion Items:         
     B.  Mr. Counts presented the nurses report prepared by Mrs. Lynn Averett.      
     C.  Mrs. Dewitt, Mr. Kruse and Mrs. Dowdy were present and gave their building reports to the board.  Mr. Counts presented the Central Elementary board report.
     D.  Mr. Counts gave the superintendent's report.  
     E.  The next board meeting was set for June 28, 2018 at 6:00 p.m.

Dexter, Missouri - Central Elementary School announced their 2018 4th Quarter Honor Roll students for 5th grade.  Students must maintain a B average to be on the Honor Roll each quarter.

Making the honor roll is not as easy as one might think.  Central Elementary students who are high achievers acquire and develop excellent study habits and skills, especially in time management.  

Successful, lifelong learners set aside a time and a space every day to do their homework. Student who can manage their daily workload have a better chance of attaining academic success.
