Student Receives Ozark Federal Credit Union Scholarship to Attend Three Rivers
Local Poplar Bluff Student Receives Ozark Federal Credit Union Scholarship to Attend Three Rivers
         
Crystal Thomas of Poplar Bluff has received the Ozark Federal Credit Union Scholarship to attend Three Rivers College.  Thomas is married to Sedrick Thomas and is the daughter of Mark Willyard Sr. of Pierre Part, La., and Patricia Martin of Wappapello.  She is a 2004 graduate of Puxico High School.  Thomas plans to obtain an Associate of Applied Science degree in Nursing while at Three Rivers.
 
Ozark Federal Credit Union awards up to two $500 scholarships each year.  To be eligible for the OFCU scholarship, the student must be a current OFCU member, in good standing, and planning to attend Three Rivers College.  The scholarship is open to both traditional 1st-year students and non-traditional students.  OFCU scholarships are determined based on merit.  Funds are awrded yearly and disbursed between two semesters for the amount of $250 per semester.  The scholarship is for one year only and the student must maintain a 2.0 GPA and remain a full-time student for the entirety of the year in which the scholarship is awarded.

MO Senator Roy Blunt to Visit Three Rivers College - Sikeston
Sikeston, Missouri - U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Missouri) will visit Three Rivers College – Sikeston at 3:45 p.m. May 2.
 
According to Blunt’s office, the senator will tour the TRC facility at 1400 S. Main in Sikeston, visit with students, and talk about the importance of Pell Grants, a federally funded needs-based program that helps students pay for a college education.
 
The Pell Grant program was expanded this year to provide grants for Summer classes, as well as the Fall and Spring semesters. Year-round Pell will allow qualifying students to continue taking classes in the summer and finish their degrees faster. Three Rivers has been offering classes in Sikeston since the 1980s. In 2005, Three Rivers opened a location there. In 2015 Three Rivers opened its present Sikeston facility, a 36,000-square-foot building that includes 10 classrooms; four computer classroom/labs; two science labs; LPN-to-RN Bridge Program facilities; a Learning Resource Center/Library; and the Sikeston Room, an auditorium/community meeting room for student and community events. Keith Mitchell family makes named gift to TRC-Kennett
 
The Keith Mitchell family made a named gift to Three Rivers College - Kennett. The donation includes naming rights for the atrium of the building.

“Education is the backbone of small towns such as Kennett,” said Keith Mitchell. “Our family is proud to be able to invest in Three Rives College and its students.”

“We very much appreciate the support of the Mitchell family,” said Kathy Ballard, Director of TRC-Kennett. “Their donation will be used for unexpected needs of the Kennett location not foreseen in the yearly budget.”

Three Rivers College – Kennett is an external location for Three Rivers College. It allows area residents to pursue higher education close to home by offering quality and affordable college transfer and career-technical programs at its location at 1002 Great West Drive in Kennett.

The donation was made through the Three Rivers Endowment Trust, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization designated by Three Rivers College to receive and manage gifts on behalf of the College. The Endowment Trust acts as a trustee for donations to assure that gifts are distributed in the manner specified by the donor.

Faurecia Donates Stretcher to Three Rivers EMS Program
Dexter, Missouri - Faurecia in Dexter donated a full X-frame EMS stretcher with backboard to Three Rivers College for use in its Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic programs.
 
“We appreciate this donation, which we will place into the donated ambulance that we have to provide our students with realism in patient care scenarios,” said Tami Cunningham, Coordinator of the Emergency Medical Services Program at Three Rivers. Stretchers such as this one can cost more than $9,000.
 
“Donations such as this help us provide our students with the latest equipment that they will encounter in their field experiences. This allows our students to be familiar with the equipment they will be using during their field internships with the area ambulance services,” Cunningham said.
 
“Faurecia is proud to partner with the Three Rivers EMS Program,” said Michael Pulley, Plant Manager for the Faurecia facility in Dexter. “We are happy that this donation will directly benefit the members of our community.”
 
Three Rivers offers an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Paramedic and a One-Year Certificate in Paramedic. The Paramedic program prepares EMTs to apply for National Registry Examination for paramedic licensure and to provide safe and effective pre-hospital emergency care for sick and injured adults and children. Three Rivers also offers a Short-Term Certificate in Emergency Medical Services for those wanting to train to become an emergency medical technician.

Three Rivers College Selects 2018 Distinguished Alumni Award
Three Rivers College selects Karon Campbell as the recipient of the 2018 Distinguished Alumni Award
 
Three Rivers College will honor Karon (Walker) Campbell, the recipient of its 2018 Distinguished Alumni Award, at a reception at the Tinnin Fine Arts Center on Thursday, April 26, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The reception will be open to the public.
 
“We’re proud to honor Karon Campbell for her contributions to Three Rivers College and the region,” said Dr. Wesley Payne, President of Three Rivers College. “She has longtime ties to this College and serves as a great example for many.” 

Campbell, who lives in Qulin, is a 1977 graduate of Three Rivers College. She earned an associate of applied science degree in business management. For several years, she worked at Whitworth’s Gift Chest Jewelers in Poplar Bluff. She then stayed home briefly to raise her children. She also worked as a substitute teacher. In the mid-1980s, Campbell completed a continuing education course, “Principles of Real Estate,” at Three Rivers and briefly worked in real estate. In 1991, she earned her EMT certificate at Three Rivers and worked at Lucy Lee Hospital – later known as Three Rivers Healthcare - for 10 years. She then decided to assist her husband on the farm while catering part time. In 2001, her catering business, Tasteful Creations, became a full-time job. Her company now caters numerous events annually.
 
“Karon is a great friend of Three Rivers College and well-respected by so many people in this community,” said Michelle Reynolds, Director of Development for Three Rivers. "She has provided invaluable support to Three Rivers both personally and professionally." 

In addition to receiving the Distinguished Alumni Award, Campbell has been selected as the Keynote Speaker at Three Rivers' 2018 Commencement ceremony, which will be May 18 at the Black River Coliseum.
