Bernie, Missouri - Dalton Thomas Hobgood signed to play baseball with Crowley's Ridge College located in Paragould, Arkansas.
Dalton is the son of Derek and Krystal Hobgood and Casey Bryan. His grandparents are Tom and Debbie Hobgood, Dwight and Kelly Owens and Merri Beth Bryan. He has two younger brothers Cane Hobgood age 9 and Caedon Bryan age 10.
When asked why he chose Crowley's Ridge College, "based on the location as it is close to home and the close, tight-knit atmosphere. It was definitely a place that I could feel like a home away from home for the next four years," stated Dalton.
His plans are to study K-12 Physical Education at Crowley's Ridge.
At Bernie High School Dalton was All-Conference Honorable Mention in his sophomore year and was named 1st Team All-Conference and 1st Team All-District his junior year. He was also Bernie High School's Most Improved Player in 10th grade and BHS Offensive Player of the Year his junior year in baseball.
"Dalton has had a nice career at Bernie," stated head baseball coach Marcus Massey. "In the fall he hit .487 with a .551 on base percentage. In 89 at-bats he only struck out 4 times. He played shortstop and also pitched for us. On the mound in the fall he was 3-1 with a 1.867 era.
Dalton has had some setbacks during his high school sports career. On November 9, 2017 he tore his ACL during in basketball practice and had surgery on December 6, 2017. His surgeon told him it would be approximately a six month recovery period so he would miss his senior basketball and baseball season. That hasn't stopped him as he plans to play for the Southeast Tropics summer program and is currently working very hard to get back to full recovery .
"Dalton is a great player tha thas played a lot of baseball in his life," commented Bernie head baseball coach Marcus massey. "He is a kid that plays year round . Not having him this year definetly hurts from not only the stand point of him being a good player, but also a senior that was a leader for us on the field. We are going to have to adjust and now someone is going to have to step up and try and fill his role the best they can."
Dalton is also an academic achiever as well. He is a member of Sr. Beta Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Future Business Leaders of America, and Future Farmers of America at Bernie High School.
The "Pioneers" have competed in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) (Division 1) since 2008. Intercollegiate sports activities include, men's basketball, baseball, cross country and golf, women's basketball, volleyball, cross country and softball. The Athletic program at CRC became Associate members of the NAIA in April 2016.
