Bloomfield School Board Meeting Minutes for March 2018

Bloomfield, Missouri - The Bloomfield School Board met on Monday, March 12, 2018.  Below are the minutes from Toni Hill, Bloomfield School Superintendent.

A few students from our Jr Beta Club presented as well as our state qualifier for History Day - the students did a fantastic job presenting!

The board approved May 29-June 18, 2018 as our summer school dates. 

The board also approved the three insurance plans recommended by the insurance committee for the 2018-19 employee insurance plan options.  

The board discussed some upcoming summer facility upgrades.  A buzzer entry system for all buildings was discussed and agreed upon that this was a good use of Fund 4 monies.  Also discussed was the high school bathroom remodel - as discussed in our facility committee meetings, the bathrooms will be remodeled during the summers using Fund 4 monies.  We will begin with the high school bathrooms because it is the one most in need.

During executive session, the board:

1.  Approved Brasley Conner, Sandra Cato, and Sarah Ballance as substitutes pending

     background check and proper paperwork

2.  Accepted resignations of Sara Holloway, Miranda Foster, and Stephanie Sappington

3.  Approved Jonathan Simpher as assistnt JH baseball coach for 2017-2018 school year

4.  Hired all certified staff

Dexter Elks 2018 March Students of the Month

Larry White, Dexter Elks Lodge member, presented certificates and $50 checks for Savings Bonds to Advance seniors Peyton Kirchhoff and Hailee Laird.

Peyton is the son of Patrick Kirchhoff and Lisa Manuel.

Hallee Laird is the daughter of David and Jennifer Laird.

Peyton and Hallee are competing with honorees from the other county schools for the Dexter Elks Students of the Year.

Both students, along with their parents and counselor, Kim Backfisch, will be honored with a banquet to be held at the Dexter Elks Lodge later this spring.

The Elks Students of the Year will be announced at the spring banquet on April 17, 2018.

Southwest Elementary - Pay $1 and Wear PJs to School March 29th

Dexter, Missouri - Southwest Elementary Relay for Life Team is hosting a Pajama Day fundraiser on Thursday, March 29, 2018.

Teachers and students will "Dress Down for Cancer".  Each person can bring $1.00 and wear pajamas to school that day.

What a great way to raise money for the American Cancer Society's annual Relay for Life event in Dexter to be held on Friday, May 4, 2018 at West Park.

Central Relay for Life Trivia Night Fundraiser

Dexter, Missouri - Central Elementary Relay for Life Team will host a Trivia Night fundraiser on Friday, March 16, 2018 the Sacred Heart Church Gym in Dexter.

Teams of 8 for $120 or $15 per person.

Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. and Trivia Night starts at 7 p.m.

There will be a decorated table prize with the theme being St. Patricks Day!

A 50/50 raffle, gift basket raffle and a heads and tail will also be part of the night.

Mulligans are $10 and Cooler Fee is $20.

Checks can be written to Central Flower Fund.  To register early contact Whitney Tanksley at wtanksley@dexter.k12.mo.us or Shelby Lintz at slintz@dexter.k12.mo.us.

Register today if you have not registered yet.  Deadline has passed, but they will take more!  Proceeds got to families battle cancer at the Annual Relay for Life set for Friday, May 4, 2018.

Neal E. Boyd Endowed Scholarship in Performing Arts Established
The Neal E. Boyd Endowed Scholarship in Performing Arts has been established through the Southeast Missouri University Foundation.

The fund was established by Boyd and two fraternity brothers.  The scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled at Southeast Missouri State University majoring in performing arts with a minimum 3.0 grade point average. The recipient of this scholarship must demonstrate financial need, and preference will be given to students involved in leadership activities such as Greek Life and the Student Government Association.  Boyd himself was a student with need, who received scholarship support, and he was involved with the performing arts and a leader in Student Government, the Interfraternity Council, the Residence Hall Association, and Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.

Boyd earned two undergraduate degrees – a Bachelor of Arts in speech communications and political science from Southeast and a Bachelor of Arts in music from the University of Missouri-Columbia – and continued his education at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, before a fulfilling career that has included teaching, business, public speaking and performing.

He is a recipient of Southeast’s Distinguished Service Award.
