Message from Bloomfield School District Regarding Today's Threat of Violence

March 5, 2018

The Bloomfield Police Department received a call Sunday evening at approximately 9:45 p.m. concerning a threat of violence towards Bloomfield R-14 School District.  The police deputy on duty called me shortly after.

Two Bloomfield Middle School students were placed in juvenile custody as of very early Monday morning for making a terroristic threat and peace disturbance.  This threat involved two juveniles so no further information will be released.

The Bloomfield Police Department received information of the threat.  The Bloomfield R-14 School District would like to thank the Bloomfield Police Department, as well as the Stoddard county Sheriff's Department and the Stoddard County Juvenile Office for their swift response to this threat of violence.  These three agencies performed an excellent job of responding and taking action in response to this threat of violence.

Parents - Please relay to your children and young adults that threats of violence will be taken seriously and handled in the swiftest and most punitive manner possible.  An excuse of "just kidding around" or "just joking" is unacceptable considering recent occurrences of school violence.  We take the safety and security of our students very seriously and will not tolerate these threats of violence.

Bloomfield R-14 School District makes fostering a safe and secure learning environment a priority for our students, staff, and community.  We appreciate the efforts of the Bloomfield Police Department, Stoddard County Sheriff's Department, and the Stoddard County Juvenile Office during this process.

Please feel free to contact my office with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Toni Hill, Superintendent
