Click It or Ticket

Dexter, Missouri - Dexter Police will be joining efforts with statewide law enforcement on February 15th for an aggressive “Click It or Ticket” mobilization to get more motorists to buckle up — and save more lives.

Despite evidence proving the benefits of wearing a seat belt, 16% of Missouri motorists are still not making it click. Even worse, 65% of occupants killed in 2017 crashes in Missouri were unrestrained.

“Local motorists should be prepared for stepped up Click It or Ticket enforcement,” said Chief Sammy Stone. “We’ll be out there to remind you seat belts can – and do – save lives.”

Buckle Up and Arrive Alive.

Hepatitis A Case Identified in Poplar Bluff, Missouri
Poplar Bluff, Missouri - The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services and Butler County Health Department are investigating a case of Hepatitis A identified in a food handler that worked while potentially contagious at a Poplar Bluff restaurant.

Anyone who ate at the Huddle House in Poplar Bluff between January 3, 2018 and January 17, 2018, should watch for symptoms of Hepatitis A.

According to the release from the department, they are taking necessary measures to decrease the spread of the illness.

Customers who ate at the restaurant during the time frame should seek medical care if they have symptoms.

Symptoms develop between two and seven weeks after exposure and can include:

Fever
Fatigue
Loss of appetite
Nausea
Vomiting
Abdominal pain
Dark urine
Clay-colored stools
Joint pain
Jaundice (yellow skin and eyes)

Members of the public or providers with patients who are concerned about a potential exposure can call Butler County Health Department at 573-785-8478 or the Stoddard County Health Center at 573-568-4593.

Anyone can get vaccinated especially those working in the food industry.  Again it is not a requirement or state law in Missouri that food handler/preparation employees receive the vaccination.

Ways to get the vaccine:
1. Contact your Insurance Company and see if the vaccination is covered.
2. Contact your provider/doctor and see if they carry the vaccination.
3. Contact the local health department and see if they carry the vaccination.

The Stoddard County Public Health Department does have the Hepatitis A vaccination available and it is a series of two shots six months apart.  The cost is $80 for both a vaccination and booster.

Caller ID Spoofing Hits Dexter - Beware of Scams

Caller ID Spoofing Hits Dexter - Beware of Scams

Dexter, Missouri - Have you received a strange call on your cell phone from a local number?  Do they want credit card information.

"It has come to our attention that there have been numerous cases of Caller ID Spoofing occurring in town over the past few days. They are using software to disguise their actual phone number by showing a name and number you may be familiar with."

The caller may ask if you wish to set up a credit card account with them, however the caller is not affiliated with that business and is attempting to get your credit card information.

Please be wary of any solicitations from a number that appears to be of a local business, or a business that you frequent. If you're in doubt about the legitimacy of a caller, hang up the phone and initiate a call yourself by calling the business directly.

Drew Juden, Director of Public Safety, Guest Speaker at Kiwanis Club

Dexter, Missouri - The Dexter Kiwanis Club held their bi-monthly meeting at American Steakhouse on Monday, January 22, 2018 with guest speaker Drew Juden.

Juden was named Director of Public Safety for the state of Missouri by Governor Eric Greitens on January 2, 2017.  He has held that position for one year now.

Prior to that he was in the police field over 38 years.

He is a member of the State of Missouri Homeland Security Advisory Council.  he previously he served as a member of the Board of Directors of the SEMO Major Case Squad, SEMO Drug Task Force and is the Founding member of the SEMO Bomb Team.  He served as President of the Missouri Police Chiefs Associate in 2015.

In 2008 Juden received the Missouri Police Chiefs Associations Donald "Red" Loehr Outstanding Police Chief Award.

He has received many awards locally including Outstanding Law Enforcement of the Year and Citizen of the Year.

What is the Department of Public Safety? "The Department of Public Safety comprises eight different agencies (including two commissions) and six separate programs all committed to ensuring the safety of the citizens of Missouri. Additionally, the Office of the Director administers the Homeland Security Program and state and federal funds in grants for juvenile justice, victims’ assistance, law enforcement and narcotics control."

"The Department consists of over 15,000 employees in the state with a budget of over 800,000 million dollars from grants of which is very little from the general revenue," according to Juden.  "One of the biggest changes was the one radio network that covers the entire state.  The Dexter Police Department just recently started using and the Dexter Fire Department is looking into it as well.  Sikeston was the original test site with now over 33,000 users and over 1 million "push-to-talks" per week throughout the state of Missouri.

"One of the biggest changes that the state has made is the proactive approach on natural disasters within the state," continued Juden.  "Ice Storms, which we all felt in 2009 and the most recent flooding issues with Missouri having two large rivers.  The Perryville tornado had people already on the ground near there to help go door-to-door to search for people."

"Our no. 1 issue is flash flooding and we now have air capability with the national guard and a marine division of the Missouri Highway Patrol to help with rescues during flooding," commented Juden.

"We are here to serve the citizens of Missouri and provide a safe environment and we are doing that," stated Juden.
