2017 Bernie Invitational Basketball Tournament Set

Bernie, Missouri - The 2017 Bernie Invitational Basketball Tournament is slated to begin on Monday, November 27th at 4 p.m. with the #1 seeded Bernie Mules facing the #8 seeded Holcomb Hornets. in game one.

There are eight teams in the tournament. Seeds are:

#1Bernie

#2 Risco

#3 Neelyville

#4 Puxico

#5 Twin Rivers

#6 Bloomfield

#7 Campbell

#8 Holcomb

At 5:15 p.m. the #4 seeded Puxico Indians vs the #5 Twin Rivers Royals.

At 6:30 p.m. #2 Risco vs #7 Campbell and at 7:45 p.m. #3 Neelyville vs #6 Bloomfield.

Semifinal games are at 6:30 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, November 28th with the Championship game slated for thursday, November 30th at 7:00 p.m.

Third place game is at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 30th.

Krysten Garrison Signs with New Mexico State

Dexter, Missouri - Krysten Garrison had an exciting three years on the volleyball court at Dexter High School.  Garrison signed to play volleyball at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM.  

She is the daughter of Darren and Lori Garrison.

Her grandparents include Buddy and Karen Randolph of Dexter, Missouri, and Stan and Sandy Garrison of Piedmont, Missouri.

Garrison is active in Sr. Beta, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Council, Future Business Leaders of America, and Future Teachers of America.

Outside of school she has participated in High Performance Volleyball Club and attends Harvest Baptist Church in Piedmont, Missouri.

She was awarded in volleyball all district, all region, all state, all SCAA, SCAA player of the year, Max Preps MO player of the week, Semoball Volleyball Player of the Year. In basketball she was awarded all district, all SEMO conference, SEMO conference scoring champion-2015, and 3rd place in state in 2017.

She enjoys playing sports and hanging out with friends and family.

As a junior, she had 506 kills, 99 block, 61 assists, 242 digs, and 32 aces.  What a year!!  Due to an injury she was unable to play her senior year, but her stats speak volumes as to what she completed in her high school career.  She finished with a total of 954 kills, 190 blocks, 357 digs, 116 aces, and 601 assists.

"That's amazing, truly amazing!" commented head volleyball coach Carmen Morgan.  

Garrison will go on to play basketball for the Lady cats where she led the team in scoring as a sophomore averaged more than 14 points per game and 9 rebounds per game.  Though she missed the first few months of her junior basketball season with a torn labrum she still managed to average 14 points per game and 5 rebounds in the games she was able to play.

"She is a phenomenal athlete," Morgan said. "New Mexico State is lucky to have her and we will miss her terribly."

State Ranked Kirkwood Rolls Past Lady Cats at Turkey Shootout

Frontenac, Missouri - With their first win at the St. Joseph's Academy Turkey Shootout the Lady Cats of Dexter felt pretty good going into their second game of the season against state ranked Kirkwood Lady Pioneers.

Sophomore Natalie Bruns made an immediate impact, helping Kirkwood beat the Lady Cats. She finished with a game-high 20 points.

Jadiah Stewart also finished in double digits recording 14 including 2 treys for the Lady Pioneers.

Dexter held Kirkwood close in the first quarter trailing by only 3 points, but it was the second half when Kirkwood went for the kill.  The Lady Pioneers exploded holding Dexter to 20 points while they racked up 32 giving them a 55 - 35 win.

Chaylea Mosby recorded 18 points for a team-high performance.  She also had three treys.

"We've got to establish an inside game," stated Dexter Lady Cats' coach Chad Allen. "We added a new offense this year which will take some time, but hopefully it won't take too long for it to be effective.  Also, our defense and rebounding have got to get better along with our communication."

Lady Cats Win First Game at the St. Joseph's Academy Turkey Shootout

Frontenac, Missouri - The Dexter Lady Bearcats held off St. Joseph Academy Angel 58 - 48 to win their first game of the 2017 St. Joseph's Academy Turkey Shootout on Friday, November 24th at the St. Joseph's Academy in Frontenac, Missouri.

Dexter junior guard Chaylea Mosby scored nine of her game-high 27 points in the final minutes as the 'Cats put the finishing touches on their triumph. She finished the game with 6 treys.

"Chaylea had a great weekend," commented head girls basketball coach Chad Allen.  "She really carried us during both of our games vs St. Joseph Academy and Kirkwood." 

The Angels did play well in the first half and held the 'Cats to a 26-25 lead going into the half-time break., but it was all Dexter in the second half.

Junior forward Maycie Martin tallied 12 points and senior center Hannah Thurmon finished with 10 points.

Alex Kerr had a team-high 21 points for the Angel. 

This was the first win for the Lady Cats at the Turkey Shootout.  Previously they were 0-6.

"It was nice to be able to get a win this year," continued Allen.  "We are still not even close where we need to be and definitely didn't play up to our potential."

2017 SEMO Conference Girl's Basketball Tournament

Jackson, Missouri - The 2017 SEMO Conference varsity girls basketball tournament is set to begin Monday, November 27th at Saxony Lutheran High School in Jackson, Missouri.  The eight-team event is slated to take place November 27th, 28th, and 30th.

Saxony Lutheran has received the number 1 seed and and will take on the #8 seeded Kennett Lady Indians on November 27th at 4 p.m. in quarterfinal action.

Other quarterfinals are #4 seeded Notre Dame vs #5 seeded Poplar Bluff at 8:30 p.m. and the Dexter Lady Cats seeded #2 will take on #7 seeded Sikeston at 5:30 p.m.  The #3 seeded Jackson Lady Indians will compete against #6 Cape Central at 7:00 p.m.

Semifinals are on November 28th and the Championship is slated for 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 30th.d

Third place will be on November 30th at 7:00 p.m.
