Dexter Cross Country Team Finishes Ninth at District Meet

Dexter, Missouri - The Dexter high school cross country team wrapped up its season Saturday at the Class 3 District 1 meet held at Charles Bland Stadium.

The Bearcats placed ninth out of eleven teams with a score of 248.

Defending state champion Festus finished first with 31 points, followed by Herculaneum (50), Potosi (80), Notre Dame (80), Ste. Genevieve (140), Desoto (190), Perryville (219), Kennett (228), North County (256), and Windsor (291).

Two Lady Cats are headed to State in individual competition on Saturday, November 4, 2017 in Jefferson City.

Emily Ladd and Margo Nea qualified to attend the state meet.  Emily finished in the top 10 in eleven races so far this year.  She has three second place wins and has won three races.  She broke a school record that had stood since 2009 and then turned around and broke that record at the District Meet.

"As a team, this group has won 56 medals, 29 PRs (personal records), 13 season bests, and 34 course bests in the 2017 season," commented head cross country coach Leonard Morse.

"This team has grown into a family this year," continued Morse.  "The members of the team care about each other and are there to encourage each other whenever needed.  They can be found on the course after their own race cheering for their teammates."
