Dexter, Missouri - The Dexter Tree Board provided trees for third grade students at Central Elementary in Dexter. The students planted them in a belated Arbor Day event. It was raining and too wet to plant the trees so the date had to be postponed.
Herman Morse, a member of the local Tree Board, distributed red bud tree seedlings and explained the significance of trees to the students. Students then planted the trees in designated areas to continue the long time tradition at Central Elementary.
The Tree Board began the program in 1992. Students planted nearly 400 pine trees that year. Though the program has been significantly scaled back, planting of trees each year is a great way to get close to nature and help our environment.
