THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PADUCAH HAS ISSUED A * FLOOD WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN ILLINOIS AND SOUTHEAST MISSOURI, INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING AREAS, IN SOUTHERN ILLINOIS, ALEXANDER, FRANKLIN, GALLATIN, HAMILTON, HARDIN, JACKSON, JOHNSON, MASSAC, POPE, PULASKI, SALINE, UNION, WHITE, AND WILLIAMSON. IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI, BOLLINGER, BUTLER, CAPE GIRARDEAU, CARTER, PERRY MO, RIPLEY, SCOTT, STODDARD, AND WAYNE MO. * THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON * WIDESPREAD RAINFALL AMOUNTS FROM 2 TO 3 INCHES HAVE OCCURRED OVER PARTS OF SOUTHEAST MISSOURI OVER THE PAST 24 HOURS, WITH 1 TO 2 INCHES ELSEWHERE IN THE WATCH AREA. RAIN IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE THROUGH SATURDAY. THERE MAY BE SOME BREAKS IN THE RAIN, BUT THERE WILL ALSO BE PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN THAT WILL BE CAPABLE OF FLOODING CREEKS AND LOW-LYING AREAS. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A FLOOD WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR FLOODING BASED ON CURRENT FORECASTS. YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE ALERT FOR POSSIBLE FLOOD WARNINGS. THOSE LIVING IN AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING SHOULD BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLOODING DEVELOP.
