Dexter, Missouri - Celebrate Holy Week beginning Palm Sunday, followed with special Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter services at the First United Methodist Church in Dexter.
Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week. Worship services are at 8:15 a.m., 9:15 a.m., and 10:30 a.m. each Sunday.
Maundy Thursday service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, 2017. Maundy Thursday was the night that Jesus and the disciples gathered together in the Upper Room for their last meal together. Jesus washed the disciples' feet and instituted what we now observe as the sacrament of Holy Communion.
On Holy Saturday, April 15th, the church will be open to anyone for prayer from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. Pastor Ron Beaton will be there from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. if anyone wishes to join him in prayer.
The Tenebrae Worship service on Good Friday will begin at 7:30 p.m. The church will host a string trio while hearing the story of the Passion. Tenebrae is Latin for shadows or darkness. The Tenebrae is an ancient Christian Good Friday service that makes use of gradually diminishing light through the extinguishing of candles to symbolize the events of that week from the triumphant Palm Sunday entry through Jesus' burial. If you have never been to a Good Friday service, this is one you will not want to miss
The Morning Grace (traditional) service with Communion will be held at 8:15 a.m. on Easter Sunday.
The Crossover (contemporary) service will be held at 9:15 a.m. and the Traditions (traditional) service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Easter Sunday.
At the Traditions Service they will have a brass band with the singing of the Hallelujah Chorus.
Dexter First United Methodist Church is located at 501 S. Walnut Street.
