Dexter, Missouri – The Lions Club of Dexter will host their annual Waffle Day this Saturday, March 11th.
This event will take place at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 102 East Castor Street from 6:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
Their breakfast menu will be waffles, sausage, coffee, OJ and milk. Tickets are $5.00 each. Children 6 and under are Free!
Congratulations to the LLB on their Sectional Win!! The Lady Cats Varsity Basketball girls may eat FREE!!!
Proceeds from the event will go to purchase eye glasses for those who are in need and for local scholarships.

Dexter, Missouri - The Dexter Welcome Center has a Job Opening for a Welcome Center Coordinator.
The City of Dexter is seeking an energetic, creative, part-time Welcome Center Coordinator.
The mission is to assist the City and property owners in the promotion of the Train Depot, Welcome Center and Caboose as an economic, historic and family-friendly cultural center. The candidate for this position should possess leadership and administrative skills, initiative, the ability to work well with others and develop and plan events, excellent oral and written communication skills, and strong computer skills. The candidate should be active in Historic Downtown Dexter activities and be involved with strategic planning and budgeting.
The candidate will help keep the Visit Dexter website up to date, as well as the materials on the tourism wall. Candidate will be required to work some evenings and weekends and be able to move and lift up to 50lbs.
Experience required: Candidate should be able to market, event plan and use resources at their exposure. Also, the candidate should have excellent customer service, be innovative, and be able to work independently.
Education required: High School Diploma, preferred Two year degree in Business, Marketing or Public administration.

Bernie, Missouri - The Bernie Parents as Teachers' Student of the Month for March 2017 is Mason Orion Beaird.
He is the son of Justin and Emily Beaird and was born November 17, 2015.
Mason loves playing with his sister, listening to music, playing ball, and dancing. He also enjoys books and animals.
During the family’s PAT visits, Mason most enjoys the new books he receives and spending time reading with his parents.

History
In 1981, Missouri pioneered the concept of helping parents embrace their important role as their child’s first and best teacher. Today, Parents as Teachers continues to equip early childhood organizations and professionals with information and tools that are relevant—and widely applicable—to today’s parents, families and children.
The Parents as Teachers leadership team and Board of Directors is engaged in a three-year strategic plan, which positions the organization as a valued partner to support the organizations and professionals who serve families and children, especially those most vulnerable.
The concept for Parents as Teachers was developed in the 1970s when Missouri educators noted that children were beginning kindergarten with varying levels of school readiness. Research showed that greater parent involvement is a critical link in the child's development of learning skills, including reading and writing.
Early childhood professionals suggested that a program to provide early detection of developmental delays and health issues, and parent education to help parents understand their role in encouraging their child's development from the beginning could help improve school readiness and parent involvement.
With funding from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and The Danforth Foundation, Parents as Teachers began in 1981 in Missouri as a pilot project for first-time parents of newborns. Recognizing the program's benefits and cost effectiveness, the Missouri legislature provided state funding in 1985 to implement Parents as Teachers programs in all Missouri school districts. Since 1985, Parents as Teachers has expanded to all 50 states and six other countries.
