Dexter, MO - Dexter Public Schools announced today the hiring of Aaron Pixley to fill the newly formed full-time position of Activities Director.
Fondly known as "Coach Pixley" and "Coach P", Aaron returns to his alma mater after 4-years as the Head Football Coach for the Kennett Indians from 2013 to 2017. Prior to that, Aaron was the head coach of the Dexter Bearcats for a 13-year tenure, recording 78 wins as the Head Coach of the Bearcat football program from 2000 to 2013. He is noted as the winningest coach in the history of Dexter High School football.
The administration and the Dexter School Board have considered a change in the Athletic Director position for several years. Currently a part-time position held by the assistant principal at both T S Hill Middle School and the Dexter High School, the responsibilities were not only over the students during the school week, but also over all the scheduling, coordination and execution of all extra-curricular activities at both buildings. There were actually two full-time positions rolled up into one full-time assistant principal position. With this transition, the district's goal was achieved in combining both the Middle School and High School Athletic Director position to the new Activities Director position.
"This move will allow our assistant principals to gain a stronger focus on our students' daily interaction, academics and course instructions," noted assistant superintendent Gavin Miller. "Our number one goal is the academic achievements of our students."
The selection process was grueling with many very strong applicants. A committee of seven staff members from throughout the district made their final recommendation to the board after several weeks of the interview process. Deciding between long term athletic program experience and familiarity with the district and community were key focuses of the committee.
"This was not an easy decision and was very difficult with the quality we had in many of those that applied for this position," added Miller. "Our district is filled with teachers of high character and integrity, so the bar was placed pretty high in our attempts to fill the Activities Director position."
Many who are familiar with Aaron Pixley know well his character and dedication to the community and Dexter High School. He is a family man with a strong desire to be a positive influence on the youth and willing to invest himself in the young men and women in the community. His passion to encourage others spreads throughout the entire community and lifts others up to higher standards from his very presence. The dedication to success lies in sticking to basic fundamentals and working hard to create an environment of achievement.
Aaron will return to Dexter to assume his new role on July 1, 2017.
