Dexter, Missouri - The ShowMe Times Dexter Sports Spotlight shines on Kelly Ash.
Kelly is on the Kickin' Cats Dance Team and is a senior at the Dexter High School.
She is the daughter of Richard and Amy Ash. Her grandparents are Doug and Cathy Sturgeon and Lynn and Jackie Ash.
Ash has been active in Student Council for one year, Dexter Honor Society and National Honors Society, DECA for one year, and FCCLA for one year.
She is a dental assistant at Dr. Kane's and is in the Smiles of Hope Organization.
Kelly has lettered in varsity basketball cheerleading, varsity football cheerleading, and dance.
Her future plans are to pursue a career in dentistry.
She enjoys dental assisting, playing golf, and anything to do with animals.
Bernie, Missouri - Bernie High School held their homecoming on Friday, February 3, 2017 following the Mules basketball game against Holcomb.
Jayce Burk, a senior, and Taylor Anthony, a freshman, were crowned the 2017 Homecoming King and Queen.
Burk is the son of Michael and Jennifer Burk. His activities include playing Basketball and Baseball. His future plans are to attend college and major in business.
Anthony is the daughter of Jon and Kelli Anthony. Her activities include Volleyball, Softball, Cheerleading, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Future Business Leaders of America, and Sr. Beta Club.
Other senior candidates were Kayli Tanner, Alex Guzman and Baylee Hyslip.
Tanner is the daughter of Zack and Beckie Tanner. She is active in Softball, Scholar Bowl, Speech and Drama and serves as Sr Beta Vice President, Student Council Historian, Yearbook Editor, and Volleyball Captain, Her future plans are to attend Harding University an pursue a degree in Exercise Science. She then plans to become a physical therapy assistant.
Guzman is the son of Fernando and Tanya Guzman. He is active in Baseball, Basketball and Sr. Beta. He plans to attend Missouri State University and pursue a degree in the field of medicine.
Hyslip is the sister of Briana and Keith Kimball. She is active in Sr. Beta, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, FCCLA, Cheerleading, Softball and serves as Secretary of Speech and Drama. Her future plans are to pursue a degree in social psychology.
Junior candidates were: Jacque Corbin, Nate Dillinger, Taylor Lovelady and Michael Suiter.
Corbin is the daughter of Kevin and Karen Corbin. She is active in Future Business Leaders of America, Sr Beta, Skills USA, Softball, Volleyball, Scholar Bowl, Pep Club and serves as Junior Class Treasurer.
Dillinger is the son of Nick and Cara Dillinger. He is active in Basketball and Baseball.
Lovelady is the daughter of Chris and Amy Lovelady. She is active in Volleyball, Cheerleading, Sr. Beta and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Suiter is the son of Justin and Marisa Suiter. He is active in Baseball, Basketball, Pep Club, Sr Beta, Future Farmers of America, and Future Business Leaders of America.
Sophomore candidates were: Cymber Arnold and Hunter Slavings.
Arnold is the daughter of Derik and Casey Arnold and Thomas and Lacey Winchester. She is active in Volleyball, Cheerleading, Softball, Sr. Beta, Future Business Leaders of America, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Slavings is the son of Robert and Bethany Slavings. He is active in Basketball, Baseball and Sr. Beta.
The other freshman candidate was: Blake Harty. He is the son of Shawn and Crystal Harty. He is active in Basketball and Senior Beta.
Flower Girl and Crown Bearer were: Tansley Shelton and Caiden Vise.
Tansley is the daughter of Jason and Melissa Shelton. She is 4 years old and attends preschool in Dexter. When she grows up she wants to be an animal doctor because she loves all animals and because they are so cute.
Vise is the son of Brittany Hendley and Daryl Vise. He is in first grade at Bernie. His future plans include becoming a police officer and eating lots of donuts.
Dexter, Missouri - One day prior to her 18th birthday, Kaylee Carey signed a letter of intent to play softball for Crowley's Ridge College in Paragould, Arkansas.
Kaylee is the daughter of Jeremy and Cindy Carey and is a senior at Dexter High School.
CRC Head softball coach Jordan Malone and assistant coach Kourtney Brown traveled from Crowley's Ridge College in Paragould to sign Carey at the Bearcat Event Center on Wednesday, February 8, 2017.
"She was a little nervous at try-outs, but had an awesome performance," stated Malone. "She performed well with our team. She definitely had the guts to try out at the college level."
"Kaylee will get a lot of playing time as a freshman as shortstop," continued Malone. "She is the 5th one we have signed and we wanted her early. We should end with about 30 girls on the roster for next year."
Kaylee began her softball career at the young age of six. By the time she was 16 she played in the Softball World Series. At Dexter High School she earned the 2015 and 2016 SCAA All Conference Softball First Team, All-District Softball, and earned the DHS Highest Batting Average two years in a row.
She is active in Sr. Beta, Future Business Leaders of America, Foreign Language Club, and is a member of the Dexter Honor Society and the National Honor Society.
"I am excited to continue playing softball," commented Carey. "It is a big part of my life and means a lot to me. I never really thought I'd play college softball, but they have a good school and a great team. I still have high school ball left and I just want to learn more and continue to play shortstop and first base this spring."
Though Kaylee is undecided in her major area of study, she plans to continue her education and decide on a major later.
Her current softball coach spoke very highly of Carey. "Kaylee is an amazing softball player, a hard worker, and has leadership skills," stated Starla Pulley, DHS Lady Cats head softball coach. "She also has a big heart and works very well with other players on the team. "
"This is my third year as head coach and seeing her growth in her batting average increase, I know she can put bat to ball."
"She has great composure and a lot of experience as she has played travel ball too," continued Pulley. "She handles tough situations and remains focused. She manages to pull it out for the big hit when needed. No matter what position she plays she gives 100%."
Dexter, Missouri - The Lady Cats of Dexter came from behind in the first quarter to shut-down the Notre Dame Bulldogs for a conference win 63 - 56.
The Bulldogs led in the first quarter 13 - 10. Dexter nailed the second quarter with 25 points earning them a 35 - 23 lead at the half.
Three Lady Cats finished in double figures.
Krysten Garrison looks to be playing very well as she has returned to the court. This was only her second game back after a should injury. She tallied a team-high 17 points. She was 7 for 9 from the field and was 3 for 3 at the charity stripe.
"I thought Krysten looked like the Krysten from last year," commented LBB head coach Chad Allen. "She really worked hard for the ball and gave us a great inside presence."
Chaylea Mosby finished with 15 points. She was 3 for 3 at the charity stripe and hit 1 trey. She also completed five 2-pointers.
"I was proud of Chaylea battling through her flu-like symptoms. She is a tough girl."
Hannah Thurmon contributed 11 points. She was 3 for 9 shooting 33% and was 5 for 8 at the charity stripe shooting 63%.
"I thought the tandem with Hannah and Krysten was huge for us tonight," continued Allen. "They work really well together inside and look for each other. They also played great interior defense for us too."
"Our two seniors played big for us tonight," Allen said of Riley Allen and Cheyenne Mosby. "Cheyenne got a lot of offensive boards and Harley hit some big 3's."
Tonight was Natalie Sitze's first night back after an injury to her elbow. She tallied 7 points including one 3-pointers for the Lady Cats.
"Natalie played really well considering being out about a week and a half with an elbow injury."
The Notre Dame Bulldogs also had three athletes finish with double figures.
Notre Dame was led by Megan Heisserer with 22 points. She recorded 7 treys and one from the free throw line.
Sam Brennan tallied 12 points. She completed six 2-poin field goals.
Allie Ziegler finished with 10 points. She had four 2-pointers and was 2 for 2 at the charity stripe.
Dexter Lady Cats travel to Cape Central on Thursday. Game time 6:00 p.m.

Perryville, Missouri - The Dexter boys basketball team had an outstanding game against the Perryville Pirates on Monday evening. The Bearcats shot 60% from the floor and had 52 points in the paint to come out on top over the Pirates 65 - 32. They also out rebounded their opponent 33 - 19.
"I was very pleased in our defensive effort tonight. We were down in a good stance, had good positioning, and seemed real hungry to get stops," commented head basketball coach Josh Dowdy. "Playing good team defense with energy is what we will have to have to compete against the rest of the teams on our schedule."
By the end of the first period Dexter led 22 - 6 and increased their lead to 34 - 16 at the half.
Three Bearcats finished in double figures.
Gabe Jackson tallied a game-high 17 points. Jackson was 7 for 8 from the floor with a total of 13 rebounds.
Jason Jarrell scored 15 points. Jarrell was 7 for 11 with 5 rebounds.
Clay Mullins finished with 13 points. Mullins shot 6 for 11 and had 6 rebound.
"Clay Mullins continues to improve defensively and helped us on the boards tonight," continued Dowdy. "It was nice to see Chad Smith have a chance to log some minutes. Chad is committed in practice and continues to improve on both ends of the floor."
Perryville was led by Josh Robinson who recorded 10 points.
The Dexter Bearcats (15-6) will face Bell City on Tuesday evening. There will not be a junior varsity game, so the varsity game will begin at 6:00 p.m. This will finish out their SCAA Conference schedule.
"Tomorrow night we go to Bell City for our final game of the SCAA Conference. This is a big game for us. We will need to play as well as we did tonight to give ourselves a chance against a team who plays real hard," stated Dowdy.
