Dexter Public School Board Meeting Minutes - January 17, 2017

Dexter, Missouri - The Dexter Public School board held their monthly meeting on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. followed by a closed session for hiring.

Call to Order/Roll Call/Pledge  The Board President announced the meeting is to begin, ascertains the attendance status of all board  members with all members being present, and leads in the saying  of the Pledge of Allegiance.

Consent Agenda:   The Consent Agenda was approved.

Public Comments:  Mrs. Hahn-CTA Advisory Representative, shared important information about campus activities.  A thank you card was shared with the board.  

Old Business: 

The board approved calendar B for the 2017-2018 school year.  The results of the survey indicated calendar A received 93 votes and calendar B received 100 votes (calendar B is attached).  

New Business: There was no new business discussed.  

Discussion Items:

Policy updates 2016D which includes policy DL, ECA, GBA, GBAA, GCBA, GCBA-R1, GCD, GDBA, GDC, IGBA, IND, JEC, JGF, and KK were presented to the board for review.  

Ken Pierce from Mid-West Transit was present to discuss bus leasing information and answer any questions by the board.    

Melanie Stoelting was present.  She opened with a history of the Parents as Teachers Program and discussed the current status of the districts’ program.  

Information was provided about the Chamber of Commerce Event that will be held on Saturday, January 28th at the Elks Lodge.  The event begins at 6:00 p.m. with social hour being held from 5:00-6:00 p.m.  The district will have an Educator of the Year recipient at this event.  

Updates were given in regards to the school board elections.  The last day to file was Tuesday, January 17th.  We have five signed up for three positions, incumbent Kevin Bishop, and candidates Jason Comfort, Ben Worley, Bud Lawrence, and Ron Glaus.   

A certificate from the Missouri School Board Association was given to each of the school board members in honor of their service on the board.  School Board Recognition week is January 22-28, 2017.  They were thanked for their dedication and service to the school district.  

 The monthly report from High School Nurse, Linda Milam was presented to the board.  

 The building principals were present and shared a monthly report of happenings in each of their buildings.  

 The next scheduled board meeting was set for February 21, 2017 at 6:00 p.m.

In Closed Session:

The board approved the following additions to the Substitute Teacher List: Alexa Ash, Carol Beam, Cheryl Boggess (PAT only), Alexandra Brotz, Malinda Mayo, Wilma Pennington, and Jimmy Smith.   

Evaluations of fall coaches in the HS were discussed with the board by Mr. Urhahn.  

Mr. Gavin Miller shared information with the board about the differences between a MSHSAA Membership vs. a MSHSAA Affiliate status at the middle school level.  

The board approved the following transfer requests:

Central Assistant Principal, Alana Dowdy to High School Assistant Principal for the 2017-2018 school year.

MS Counselor/Interim Assistant Principal, Nancy Langley to Middle School Assistant Principal for the 2017-2018 school year.  

HS English Teacher, Laura Stone to High School Counselor for the 2017-2018 school year.  

SW Kindergarten Teacher, Bailey Christian to SW Title Teaching position for the 2017-2018 school year.  

SW 2nd Grade Teacher, Cindy Justice to SW Title Teaching position for the 2017-2018 school year.  

SW 2nd Grade Teacher, Evelyn Fortner to SW Kindergarten Teaching position for the 2017-2018 school year.  

SW Kindergarten Teacher, April Berry to SW 1st Grade Teaching position for the 2017-2018 school year.  

C 4th Grade Teacher, Anna Whiteman to C 5th Grade Teaching position for the 2017-2018 school year.  

C Title Teacher, Brooke Dodson to C 3rd Grade Teaching Position for the 2017-2018 school year.  

The board approved employment for the following people for the 2017-2018 school year:

    Susan Pfeffer-High School Math Position
    Jordan Noyes-High School Math Position

The board approved employment for the following people:
    
    Carrie Mosbey-SW Special Services Paraprofessional
    Brandi Craft-SW Title Paraprofessional

Retirement:  The board accepted a retirement letter from High School English Teacher, Rhonda Lane.

Retirement:  The board approved the finalized separation agreement and accepted the retirement of Mitchell Wood effective on June 30, 2017.  Mr Wood will not be required to render any services to the district for the remainder of his contact and will continue to receive his current salary and benefits until June 30, 2017.  

Resignation: The board accepted a resignation letter from Alternative School Paraprofessional, Hannah Mathis.  

Open positions for the 2017-2018 school year were shared with the board.    

    Superintendent candidate information was reviewed with the board.  

    A certified personnel list was shared with the board indicating tenured
    and non-tenured status.  

The board set and approved administrative salary indexes for the 2017-2018 school year.   

The Interim Superintendent’s evaluation was scored and discussed.  

Approved Employment:  The board approved the renewal of Amy James’ contract for the 2017-2018 school year as the Director of Special Services, Director of Federal Programs, and District Compliance Officer.

Melanie McKuin Named to Fall President's List

Dexter, Missouri - Melanie McKuin, a 2016 graduate of Dexter Senior High School, was named to the Fall 2016 Williams Baptist College President's List.

Williams Baptist College has released the names of students on the President’s and Dean’s Lists for the 2016 fall semester. 

The President’s List includes those full-time students who achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average, while the Dean’s List is comprised of those with at least a 3.5 GPA.

Melanie is the daughter of Barry and Kimmy McKuin

Williams Baptist College is a private, coeducational, four-year college located in the Lawrence County, Arkansas community of Walnut Ridge. Founded in 1941.
