James (Jim) Wesley Shanks passed away Monday, January 2, 2017; he was 82 years, 10 months and 21 days old. He was the son of the late James Wesley Shanks Sr. and Callie (Smith) Shanks. He was born February 12, 1934 in Morehouse, Missouri and attended school at Morehouse, Missouri through the eighth grade.
After helping with the family farm for several years he served briefly in the Air Force as a Military Police Officer. In 1955 he started a career working for various railroads in Gary, Indiana, Noblesville, Illinois and Bell City, Missouri. He retired in 1985 as a Foreman over a Track Maintenance Crew with the Union Pacific Railroad.
On July 12, 1969, he was united in marriage to Sarah Ellen Wilson. They were married for more than 45 wonderful years.
He attended the First United Pentecost Church in Morehouse, Missouri with Sarah for more than 25 years. He later was a member of the First Pentecostal Church in Dexter, Missouri for several years before his declining health prevented him from attending. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, working in his vegetable garden, planting flowers especially roses which Sarah loved. When he couldn’t be outside, he could be found reading the daily newspaper or a good western novel while sitting in his recliner.
Jim is preceded in death by his wife Sarah and his parents James and Callie and his Step-dad Claud Davis. Eight siblings also precede him in death: sisters Oma Waggnor, June Wade and Ella Swartz. Brothers Hershel, Russell and Earl Sloan; Tommy and Paul Davis.
Jim is survived by his son, Keith Shanks and his Girlfriend Felicia Kunefke of Benton, Missouri; his Step-son Phillip Wilson Sr. and his wife Jean Ann of Grayridge, Missouri; by five grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild as well as nieces, nephews and many friends.
Visitation will be at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM on Thursday, January 5, 2017.
Funeral service will begin at 3:00 PM with Rev. Jeff Wells officiating. Interment will follow in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter, Missouri.
Marvin Ray Wells of Dexter, Missouri, son of the late Melvin and Mary Leona Wells, was born in Vincennes, Indiana on July 23,1961 and passed away on January 3, 2017, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, at the age of 55 years, 5 months and 11 days.
Marvin had lived the past 7 years in Dexter. He had run a carpet cleaning business and was of the Christian faith.
On September 23, 1974, he was married to Alfreda Staley. She preceded him in death in 2005.
Surviving are his fiance', Rita House of Dexter; two daughters, Bambi Spade of Dexter, Destiny Wells of Deckard, Indiana; and five grandchildren. Other relatives and many friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one brother Frederick James Wells.

Hazel Robinson, daughter of the late Jesse Colbert Hamby and Geneva Fitzpatrick Hamby was born on May 21, 1934 in Stoddard County Missouri and departed this life on January 2, 2017 at the Southeast Health in Cape Girardeau at the age of 82.
Mrs. Robinson was a Nurses Aid for the Dexter Convalescent Home, the Vintage Villa Nursing Home, a home-maker for VNA and a cook for the Dexter Senior High School. She was a member of the Lighthouse Christian Center in Dexter.
She was united in marriage to James E. Robinson on November 21, 1951 in Fisk, Missouri. Mr. Robinson resides of the home in Dexter.
Survivors include; four sons, Rick Robinson of Indianapolis, Indiana, David Robinson of Dexter, Missouri, Terry Robinson of Wappapello, Missouri, and Daniel Robinson of Broseley, Missouri; and by one daughter, Jamie Hutchison of Dexter, Missouri.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by one daughter, Marla Kaye Robinson; four brothers, John Payton Hamby, Jesse Eugene Hamby, Thurman Glendon Hamby and Jake Freeman Hamby; by two sisters, Vevlean Belle Clary, and Dephna Parthinia Worley.
Friends may call at the Rainey Mathis Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
Services will be conducted on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Tim Russell officiating.
Interment will follow at the South Pleasant Valley Cemetery(Triplett) near Dexter, Missouri.
Agnes Elizabeth Irish, daughter of the late Harvey Bradney and Sallie Cone Bradney was born on February 18, 1929 at Jerome, Arkansas and departed this life in her residence at Dexter, Missouri on January 1, 2017 at the age of 87 years.
Mrs. Irish was a member of the Montrose Methodist Church, was a former bookkeeper for the City of Montrose, Arkansas and a former resident of Montrose.
She was united in marriage to Donald Irish on May 29, 1948 at Gurnee, Illinois. Mr. Irish preceded her in death on September 25, 1999.
She is survived by two sons, Harvey A. Irish of Dexter, MO. And David Irish of Warden, Washington: by four daughters, Sallie Lesperance of Trion, Georgia, Carol Woodruff of Wynn, Arkansas, Donna Price and Frances Bauer both of Russellville, Arkansas: by one sister, Harvetta Bradney of Montrose, Arkansas: by one brother, Marvin Bradney of Charlottesville, Virginia: by twenty one grandchildren, twenty five great-grandchildren and fifteen great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harvey Bradney and Charles Bradney.
Friends may call at the Montrose Methodist Church from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M., Thursday, January 5, 2017.
Funeral services will then be conducted at 11:00 A.M. in the Montrose Methodist Church with Rev. Chyrl Slocum officiating. Interment will follow in the Dermott City Cemetery.

Carol Ann Lemons of Essex, daughter of the late Benjamin William and Lucille Fredrick LeGrand, was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on March 19, 1944, and passed away at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau on January 1, 2017, at the age of 72 years, 9 months and 13 days.
She was was raised in Cape Girardeau and lived in Millington, TN and Norfolk, VA before moving to Essex in 1968.
She had worked for VNA as a CNA care giver and was a member of the Sacred Hearth Catholic Church in Dexter. She graduated from Notre Dame High School in Cape Girardeau and was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. She enjoyed reading, delivering meals on wheels and doing crafts.
On December 4, 1965, she was married to Jack Lemons in Millington, Tennessee.
Surviving are her husband, Jack Lemons of Essex; two sons & wives, Dean (Beth) Lemons of Davenport, Iowa, Derek (Amanda) Lemons of Fenton; three daughters & husbands, Claudine (Kirby) Sokolowski of Advance, Chlorena (Doug) Burleson of Scott City, Danielle (Lonnie) Beeson of Cassville; seven grandchildren; five brothers, Ron (Sue) LeGrand of Mattoon, IL, Dave (Diane) LeGrand, Tom (Brenda) LeGrand, Darryl (Gina) LeGrand, Sam LeGrand, all of Cape Girardeau; four sisters, Yvonne Finnegan of Virginia, Karen (Gene) Golden, Yvette (David) West and Tammy (Richard) Jordan, all of Cape Girardeau. Other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by brothers, Michael, Stephen and Joseph LeGrand, and sister, Catherine LeGrand.
Visitations will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Watkins & Sons Funeral Service in Dexter, Missouri.
Funeral mass will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at 10:00 am at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dexter.
Interment will follow in the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in Bloomfield with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
