
Dexter, Missouri - Kenady-Hanks American Legion Post #59 held their Thanksgiving and Christmas meal last night at the Dexter post.
A group of about 35 members and their families gathered for a potluck style dinner with ham, turkey and white beans on the menu.
Post commander, Eric Smith, welcomed the attendees with a short talk about the upcoming activities at the post. Post chaplain, Junior Cagle blessed the meal and the fun began.
The Kenady-Hanks Post will hold their monthly food pantry next Thursday, December 8th. The doors will open at 5:00 p.m. and will remain open until 6:00 p.m. or at which point everyone has been served. Food pantry events are held the second Thursday of each month and will continue during the 2017 calendar year.
The executive committee met regarding the January 2017 meeting and has decided to cancel that meeting. The next meeting will be on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 6:00 PM.

Stoddard County, Missouri - Each year the Shop With A Hero program brings joy to hundreds of children by offering them an opportunity to shop with a local firemen, policemen, EMTs, and other local heroes.
The last thing a child wants on Christmas morning is a toy without its batteries. So along with the toys the Shop With a Hero program asks for BATTERY DONATIONS.
County Wide Insurance delivered all sizes of batteries today to the Stoddard County 911 office in Dexter. The employees have been collecting batteries for a couple of weeks to help support the need of our local Shop With a Hero program.
AA, AAA, C, and D are needed, but AA are in need more than anything. If you would like to donate please ask your business to collect them this week and drop them off at the Dexter Police Department, Bernie Police Department, Stoddard County Sheriff's Department or Stoddard County Ambulance.

Bernie, Missouri - The newly formed Bernie Chamber of Commerce is excited to invite you to an Old Fashioned Christmas in downtown Bernie on Saturday, December 10, 2016 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Outdoor Christmas Movie will begin at 4:30 p.m. and will run throughout the evening. Be sure to bring a chair and a blanket! The Christmas Classic surprise movie will be in the outdoor pavilion between Save U Tax Too and Otasco.
FREE Photos with Santa will be available next to Main Street Pizza. Santa's sleigh will be located in the middle of Main Street between City Hall and Smitty's.
Christmas Toy Drive - so please bring a new toy, unwrapped for boys and girls of the Stoddard County Children's Home. Santa's Sleigh and Elves will be set up in front of Main Street Pizza to help collect your gifts! You don't want to bring a gift, financial donations will also be taken for the Children's Home.
The final activity of the night will be the Christmas Tree Lighting. The Chamber asks that the community gather at 7:00 p.m. at the corner of Main St. and Hwy 25 for the lighting of the Community Tree.
Throughout the event, many downtown businesses will be open late. Other businesses and churches will have booths set up doing crafts, snacks, and other activities for children and adults to enjoy.

Dexter, Missouri - Larry White, Dexter Elks Lodge Member, presented certificates and $50 checks for Savings Bonds to two Dexter Seniors, Jacob Harris and Macy Urhahn.
Jacob Harris is the son of Michael and Christina Harris.
Macy Urhahn is the daughter of Derek and Kelly Urhahn.
Jacob and Macy are competing with honorees from the other county schools for the Dexter Elks Students of the Year.
Both students, along with their parents and counselor, Jennifer Miller, will be honored with a banquet to be held at the Dexter Elks Lodge later next spring.
The Elks Students of the Year will be announced at the spring banquet.

Bernie, Missouri - The Malden Walmart recently provided the Bernie Parents as Teachers program with a $1,000 grant to support them in their efforts to meet the needs of their community's families and children.
With the belief that parents are their children's first and most influential teacher, the Parents as Teachers program aims to help parents and children learn, grow, and develop together to realize their full potential.
