In Loving Memory of Steve Fish

Fredric  Stephen ”Steve” Fish, 70, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away on November 22,2016 in Asheville, North Carolina.  He was born on October 23, 1946 in Estherville, Iowa to John and Carol Fish.

Steve grew up in Maxwell, Iowa and graduated from Maxwell Community High School in 1964. Upon graduation he joined the United States Airforce as a fire protection specialist.    After returning from serving in the Vietnam War, he moved to Arizona where he was a fire fighter.  He then attended the police academy.   He returned to Missouri and started working in law enforcement as a deputy for the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department.  Steve also applied, was accepted, and graduated the FBI academy in Quantico, Virginia.  

He then went to work for the Dexter Police Department and was police chief for 13 years before being elected Sheriff of Stoddard County.   During his time as sheriff he voluntarily deployed to Kuwait during Desert Storm.  He retired from law enforcement in 2005 and the Air National Guard in 2006 after 22 years total military service.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling, hunting, fishing, watching Nascar, and Cardinal baseball.

Steve married Susan in 1978 in Dexter Missouri.  He was an active member in the community as well as a member of the Elks Lodge, Lion’s Club, and VFW.

Loving survivors include his wife of 37 years Susan of Dexter, Missouri,  two daughters Charlene (Wes) Mullins of Dexter, Missouri and Nichole (CJ) Covington of Arnold, Missouri, son Ryan (Korie) Fish of Dexter, Missouri, two granddaughters Megan Mullins of Poplar Bluff, Missouri and Charlotte Covington of Arnold, Missouri, two grandsons Clay Mullins of Dexter, Missouri and Tyler Covington of Arnold, Missouri, three sisters Barbara (Ed) Compoz of Centennial, Colorado, Sandra Fish of Valley, Washington, and Dianne Compoz of Dexter, Missouri  and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents John and Carol Fish.

still loved, still missed, and very dear

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Sunday, November 27, 2016 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. 

Funeral services will then be conducted on Monday, November 28, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel. 

Interment will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.

In lieu of flowers the family requests all memorials be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000 DEPT 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908.
