Mules Baseball Team Takes Out South Pemiscot

Bernie, Missouri - The Mules varsity baseball team beat South Pemiscot 6-2 in seven innings on Tuesday, September 20th.

Alex Guzman's six strikeouts helped Bernie Mules Varsity to the victory. Guzman allowed two earned runs, five hits and two walks over seven innings.

The Mules scored two runs in the first inning to jump out with the early 2-0 lead.

One run in the top of the second helped South Pemiscot close its deficit to 2-1. An RBI double by Russell sparked South Pemiscot 's rally. Willingham flew out to end the South Pemiscot threat.

It didn't take long for Bernie Mules Varsity to answer as it scored one run of its own in the second and third inning to make it a 4-1 game. 

Bernie added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth. A clutch error scored Hobgood to open the scoring in the frame. That was followed up by Nate Dillinger's single, plating Guzman. To make it a 6-1 game in the fifth.

South Pemiscot faced just a 6-1 deficit going into the 7th. A solo home run by McCulloch gave South Pemiscot life. Finally, Guzman got Willingham to to end the game. For score of 6-2 final.

Mules Take Down Portageville

Bernie, Missouri - The Bernie Mules volleyball team finally got a chance to get on the court Thursday evening at the Mule Barn. They defeated Portageville 25-11, 25-12

Taylor Anthony had a big serving run in the 2nd set with 8 points.  Morgan Baker has 2 aces, Maddison Wooldridge had 1 ace, Taylor Anthony had 1 ace and Maddison Corbin had 1 ace.

Kayli Tanner, Maddison Wooldridge,  and Taylor Anthony each had 2 block solos.

Cymber Arnold and Taylor Lovelady each had 4 digs, Taylor Anthony had 3, Madisson Corbin and Kayli Tanner  had 2, and Maddison Wooldridge and Christina Dowdy had 1.

Kayli Tanner and Maddison Wooldridge had 3 kills, Cymber Arnold had 2, and Mabree Stone had 1.

Morgan Baker had 8 assists.

"I am proud of the girls. It was their first game of the week," commented head volleyball coach Monica Collier.  "They were excited to be on the court.  They played very well and are looking forward to a full week next week."

In Junior Varsity action the Lady Mules defeated the Bulldogs 25-13, 25-12.

Makayla Turner led in serving points with 10 total in the game, 8 in the first set and 2 in the 2nd. She also had 3 aces.  Other aces were made by Haylee Robinette with 4, Cassidy Freed with 3, Ryleigh Foster and Alivia Cobb had 2, and Daisy Eaton had 1.

The Mules had a good defensive game with Cassidy Freed leading in digs with 6, Makayla Turner and Alivia Cobb had 5, and Haylee Robinette and Daisy Eaton had 3.

Cassidy Freed also led in kills with 8, Ryleigh Foster had 6, Daisy Eaton had 5, Makayla Turner had 3. And Alivia Cobb had 1.

Ryleigh Foster had 17 assists.

The Lady Mules will be back in action on Monday, September 26th against Gideon.  On Tuesday they travel to Twin Rivers and on Thursday they host Bloomfield.

Monday is their HITS FOR HOPE game.  Monies raised will go to 18FORE Life.

Bernie Mules Beat Bloomfield in Baseball

Bernie, Missouri - The Bernie Mules varsity baseball team defeated the Bloomfield Wildcats 10-0 in six innings on Thursday after a seven-run explosion in the sixth inning.

The Bernie Mules had three different pitchers appear in the game.  Blake Beacham, Gavin Brown, and Dalton Hobgood combined for a three hit performance to help the Mules.

The Mules scored in the sixth on a two-run double by Wyatt Barnett, an RBI single by Jayce Burk, a walk by Josh Ellenburg, a two-run single by Alex Guzman, a two-run single by Guzman, and an RBI single by Nate Dillinger.

Gavin Brown paced Bernie at the plate. Brown went 2-3, drove in one and scored three runs. He homered in the first inning and singled in the third inning.

Josh Ellenburg helped the Mules out in the third inning as well with a monster solo shot to left center for his first home run of the year.

"Bloomfield couldn't get anything going as long as Dalton Hobgood was pitching,"  commented head baseball coach Marcus Massey.

Hobgood gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out five during his two innings of work.

Blake Beacham got it done on the bump on the way to a win. He pitched two shutout innings. Beacham struck out none, walked one and gave up one hit.

Hector was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed seven runs in five innings, walked three and struck out four.

The lead stayed with Bernie Mules Varsity after the first, when it scored one run on a solo home run by Brown.

The Bernie Mules will be back in action on Saturday, September 24th at the Fall Baseball Tournament in Campbell.

Dexter Sports Spotlight - Alexis May

Dexter, Missouri - The ShowMe Times Dexter Sport Spotlight shines on Alexis May.

Alexis is a Dexter Bearcat Tennis player and is a senior at the Dexter High School.

She is the daughter of Perry May and Patty May. Her grandparents are James Barber and the late Helen Barber of Essex, Missouri, and Don May and the late Jane May of Dexter, Missouri.

May is active in Student Council, Foreign Language Club, Teen Age Republicans Club, FCCLA, Future Teachers of America, Rotary Interact, Dexter Honors Society, and Teens against Smoking Coalition.

Alexis also joined Sr. Beta Club, a new club at Dexter High School, and is on the Beta Executive Board.

She received the Doubles Award in Tennis her junior year and lettered in tennis her freshman, sophomore, and junior year.

Her future plans are to attend Arkansas State University and become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.

She enjoys reading, playing tennis, and attending football and basketball games.

She attends Faith Lutheran Church and is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Dexter Sports Spotlight - Jadyn Northcutt

Dexter, Missouri - The ShowMe Times Dexter Sports Spotlight shines on Jadyn Northcutt.

Jadyn is a Dexter Bearcat Tennis player and is a sophomore at the Dexter High School.

She is the daughter of Ken and Billie Stratton. Her grandparents are Bill and Anna Swinney of Dexter, Missouri, and Yuriko Stratton from Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

Jadyn is active in Future Business Leaders of America and  DHS Student Council. She also participates on the First Baptist Church Youth Group. She also won the award for Best Attitude in Choir.

Her future plans are to attend Duke University and be a pediatric oncologist.

She enjoys tennis, being outdoors, cooking, spending time with family and friends, and watching Netflix.

She attends First Baptist Church in Dexter, Missouri, and is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
