Cooter Beats Bernie by One Run in 7 Innings

Bernie, Missouri - The Cooter Wildcats took charge on the Bernie baseball field on Tuesday afternoon.  Cooter won 2 - 1 in 7 innings.

"We are young and we didn't play our best baseball today," commented new Bernie Baseball Coach Marcus Massey. "Left to many guys stranded at third."

Cooter scored one run in the first on a lead off walk, bunt, followed by a wild pitch.  Then a throwing error by the catcher allowed the run to score.

The Mules added a run in the second on a lead-off single by Brown and a ball hit off the wall by Burk.

The Wildcats answered with a run in the 6th on a lead-off walk by Hobgood followed by a wild pitch, eventually to a sac fly ball to left field to score the go ahead run.

Bernie had their opportunity several different times leaving the bases loaded twice and two more guys left stranded at third.  The Mules left 8 guys stranded on base for the game.

"If just once or twice you have a big two out hit the game is totally different story and we would feel a lot better about our selves," stated Massey.  "But we did a lot of positives to give ourselves a chance to win and credit to them they are always a good team."

"Next time we just have to have a little better execution," continued Massey.  "But it was the first game of the year for us so a lot of positive."

Final Score Cooter 2  Bernie 1  7 innings

Starting Pitcher—Alex Guzman 4innings, 1 R, 2 H, 6 K, 3 BB

LP- Dalton Hobgood-  2 innings 1 R, 2 H,  1 K, 1 BB

WP—Crowder  5 innings 1 R, 5 H 5 K, 3 BB

Players of the Week vs Poplar Bluff Mules

Dexter, Missouri - The ShowMe Times is proud to highlight the outstanding performances of two Dexter Bearcat Football Athletes each week.  Two players will be chosen - one offensive player and one defensive player who will be featured as Players of the Week.

Leadership on the athletic field is often a good indicator of the future development of our young students and is a perfect training ground for future leaders.

This week several athletes contributed on the field, and many athletes showed extreme professionalism against their opponent; however only two players were chosen.

The ShowMe Times is pleased to announce the Players of the Week are Mr. Payton Tinnin (Offense) and Mr. Bo McMullin (Defense).

Payton Tinnin (5'10" 165 lb senior) was chosen as Offensive Player of the Week against Poplar Bluff earning 75 yards rushing on 21 carries; almost half of the total offensive yards gained in the game.  Tinnin also had 5 tackles against the Mules.

"Tinnin is our best RB right now and played well in Friday's game," commented Coach Goltra.  "McDonald was close to being selected, but ball security was the deciding factor in our offensive player of the week."

Bo McMullin (6' 0" 190 lb junior) was chosen as Defensive Player of the Week against Poplar Bluff recording 9 total tackles; 3 solo and 6 assisted.

"Bo did a great job Friday night. He brought energy to a defense that came out flat and made some big plays in the 2nd half," stated Coach Goltra. "Jett Featherston was a close 2nd in the voting. He played well and is starting to be a big contributor."

Week #3: Dexter Bearcats will be on the road against the New Madrid County Central Eagles, Friday, September 2nd.  Game time 7:00 p.m.
