Stoddard County Route VV Reduced for Pavement Repairs
 
Route VV in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.

This section of roadway is located from Route Z to County Road 766.

Weather permitting, work will take place Monday, Aug. 1 and Tuesday, Aug. 2 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

The work zone will be marked with signs.  Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area.

Stoddard County, Missouri - The University of Missouri Extension office is hiring a 4-H Youth Development Program Assistant in Stoddard County, Missouri. Required qualifications are a high school graduate/degree or GED equivalent.

Part-time position of twenty (20) hours per week.

Duties are to assist in the management and support of 4-H Youth Development programs in assigned geographic area, under the guidance and supervision of the 4-H Youth Development Specialist.

Starting salary is $9.15 per hour and training is provided.  Traveling is required and you must have reliable transportation.  Mileage will be paid.

SAINT FRANCIS ADDS ANESTHESIOLOGIST TO STAFF

Cape Girardeau, Missouri - Saint Francis Healthcare System welcomes anesthesiologist Jason A. Conway, MD, as a new Saint Francis Medical Partner. He joins 11 others at Cape Anesthesia Group in providing care to patients before, during and after surgery and offering continuous pain relief throughout surgical, obstetrical or other medical procedures.

Dr. Conway earned his medical degree from American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles. He later completed his anesthesiology residency at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pa., and recently fulfilled a cardiothoracic anesthesia fellowship at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. 

In addition to general anesthesia, Dr. Conway’s clinical interests include cardiac anesthesia and transesophageal echocardiography.

Duck Banding and Electrofishing Demonstration at Otter Slough

Dexter, Missouri - The Missouri Department of Conservation and the Dexter Greenhead Chapter of Ducks Unlimited will host their Annual Duck Banding Event at Otter Slough Conservation Area on Saturday, July 30th at 7:00 a.m.

The event will begin with Missouri Department of Conservation staff demonstrating electrofishing equipment on Cypress Lake. 

Fisheries Biologist Mike Reed will run a electrofishing boat along the shoreline and you will have a front row seat to the fish population of Cypress Lake.  Mike will also show how biologists tag fish for research projects.  While everyone is watching the show, Ducks Unlimited volunteers and MDC staff will be operating various capture equipment around Otter Slough hoping to catch mourning doves and ducks. 

Following the fish show, will be an opportunity for all youth to assist wildlife biologists band and release any birds captured on the area that day.  For a grand finale, we will travel out to a rocket net site on Otter Slough and see first hand how the nets are deployed to capture wildlife.  Ducks Unlimited volunteers will also be on hand to demonstrate retriever handling techniques and hand out some free stuff for the kids.  

The event will begin at 7:00 a.m. sharp in the large parking lot next to Cypress Lake and the equipment yard at Otter Slough Conservation Area. Most of the activities will occur in shaded areas and will conclude at approximately 10:00 a.m. 

No registration is required and the event is free to all ages.
